_____ Carmi Times Fri Sep 18, 2009 Carmi, Ill. - Charles Harrison Gwaltney, 87, passed away at 3:37 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 2009 at his residence in Carmi. He was born Nov. 12, 1921 in Eldorado, the son of William Osborn and Sarah (Read) Gwaltney. He married Ella Louise Seagraves Oct. 16, 1947. He was a World War II Army veteran, a member of New Beginning Church of God, a member of the UMWA and had worked for Amax Coal. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Ella Louise Gwaltney of Carmi; a daughter and son-in-law, Glenda Jean and Don Prehn of Ridgway; three sons and daughters-in-law, James Harrison and Vicki Gwaltney, Charles Garrett and Karen Gwaltney, and David Wayne and Jessica Gwaltney, all of Carmi; a brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Harriett Gwaltney of Evansville, Ind.; 13 grandchildren, Angela, Tammy, Bucky, Mindy, Gary, Johnny, Stacy, Tracy, Kimberly, Matthew, Sarah, Danton and Tabatha; and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Edith Hickman, Ruth Woody and Reba Fern Williams, and a brother William Marion Gwaltney. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20 at New Beginning Church of God in Carmi, the Rev. Keith Moore officiating. Burial will be in Lindale Memorial Cemetery in Eldorado. Friends may call from 1 p.m. Sunday until the service time at New Beginning Church of God. Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi is in charge of arrangements.
