Carmi Times Mon Sep 14, 2009 Carmi, Ill. - James A. Walsh, 93, a life-long resident and farmer of Hawthorne Township, passed away at 3:58 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 2009 at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. He was born Aug. 29, 1916, in Hawthorne Township, the son of James Anthony and Mary (Raglin) Walsh. He married Julia Louise Thomas Oct. 23, 1937, and she preceded him in death April 10, 2005. Mr. Walsh was a member of McHenry United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Blackburn College in Carlinville. He was a livestock and grain farmer and raised Polled Herefords. Jim was a past president of the Illinois Polled Hereford Association and the Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs. He had been secretary-treasurer of the White County Farm Bureau, a stockholder and member of the White County Fair Board, member of the Illnois Rural Task Force, and livestock superintendent at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield and the Du Quoin State Fair. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Julia Ann and Wayne Heberer of Freeburg, and Joy and Rob Holloway of Bonita Springs, Fla.; two sons and daughters-in-law, James T. and Judy Walsh, and Albert "Rusty" and Pat Walsh, all of Carmi; two sisters, Mary Routery of Maui, Hawaii, and Libby Bone of Orange, Calif.; nine grandchildren and spouses, Kent and Kristine Heberer, Rob Holloway Jr., Randy and Carolyn Holloway, Chanda and Kevin Kays, Kathy and Dale Lickenbrock, Carrie and Doug Redman, Chip and Melanie Walsh, Debbie and Darin Whetstone, and Jana and Rich Fetters; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, James Trent Walsh. Memorial gifts may be given in Mr. Walsh's memory to The Phoenix Foundation of Southern Illinois or the Carmi Public Library and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at McHenry United Methodist Church near Carmi, Norman Fechtig and the Rev. Jon Westfall officiating. Burial will be in Kuykendall Cemetery.
