Carmi Times Mon Sep 14, 2009 Carmi, Ill. - Okla W. Horton, 91, Carmi, died Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. She was born July 24, 1918, in Searcy County, Ark., the daughter of Albert and Elizabeth (Fox) Martin. She was married to Lloyd J. Horton over 74 years ago on Nov. 6, 1934, and he survives. Okla was a homemaker and member of First Pentecostal Church in Carmi. For many years, she worked at Carmi Township Hospital. She enjoyed her family and cooking for them and their friends. Survivors include her husband, Lloyd J. Horton of Carmi; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Hazel, and a daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Keith Poole, all of Carmi; a brother and sister-in-law, Thurlow and Hazel Martin of Searcy County, Ark.; nine grandchildren, Dan Horton, Craig Poole, Tim Horton, Tom Horton, Terry Horton, Linda Hayse, Charla Schneider, Kathy Cozart and Cindy Stocke; 18 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Elizabeth Martin; a son, Joe Horton; five brothers; and ten sisters. Visitation and funeral service will be Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi. Visitation is at 1 p.m. and continues until funeral time at 3 p.m. Burial will be in Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi. Loading commenting interface...
I just had to write and say how wonderful that these two people shared 74 years of their lifetime together. Most of us will never reach that number. Condolences to the family but treasure the memories.
