Carmi Times Tue Sep 08, 2009 Burnt Prairie - Alva Short, 94, Burnt Prairie, passed away at 7:25 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009 at Way-Fair Nursing Home in Fairfield. He was born Jan. 12, 1915 in Burnt Prairie, the son of Charles Edgar and Mary (Barbre) Short. He married Dorothy Ellen Juenger Sept. 19, 1942. Mr. Short was a former and a member of Liberty Baptist Church at Burnt Prairie. Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Short of Burnt Prairie; a daughter and son-in-law, Nola and Ray Jones of Grayville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Deloris Short of Carmi, and Jim and Karlos Short of Manitou, Ky.; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; two sisters-in-law, Villa Short and Mary Short, both of Fairfield. He was preceded in death by three sons, John, Terry and Larry Short; three brothers, Glen, Homer and Elza Short; a half-brother, Chauncie Dozier; and a sister, Mamie Wheat. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, with burial in Centerville Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
