Arthur V. Thomas, 89, of Carmi died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at his home.He was born Jan. 18, 1920, in Springerton, the son of Hayward Arthur and Eulah (Tucker) Thomas. He was married to Eileen (Kuykendall) Thomas, and she preceded him in death.Art was the owner and operator of Art's Grocery, a mainstay in Carmi for many years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater, and was a member of the VFW.Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Karen Thomas of Bonnie; two daughters, Connie Thomas of Nashville, Tenn. and Sue Whitler of Vienna; a brother, Harold Thomas and his wife Annabelle of Evansville, Ind.; brother-in-law and special friend Bill Kuykendall; seven grandchildren, Angel Allen, Bonnie Hill, Jessica Thomas, Josh Haley, Jeff Cavallaro, Julie Wilkins and Jennifer Barrett; and 10 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Chalen, Dallis, Haley, Hunter, Grace, Austin, Tyler, Drew and Casey.He was preceded in death by his parents, Hayward and Eulah Thomas; his wife, Eileen Thomas; two brothers, Henry and Wendell Thomas; and three sisters, Lucille Morgan, Helen Metcalf and Bernie Thomas.Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi. Burial with military rites will be in North Maple Ridge Cemetery near Carmi. Published in the Mt.
