Carmi Times Wed Nov 25, 2009 Carmi, Ill. - Mary Faye Chapman, 88, Carmi, formerly of McLeansboro, passed away at 4 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at McLeansboro Rehab and Healthcare in McLeansboro. She was born Feb. 2, 1921 in Enfield, the daughter of Elmer and Ruth (Shaw) Simmons. She married Gilbert Byron Chapman Jan. 31, 1948, and he preceded her in death April 4, 1996. Mrs. Chapman was a homemaker and seamstress at the Ainsbrooke sewing factory in Carmi. She was a member of Stewart Street Baptist Church in Carmi. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Dale Atteberry of Winfield; a son and daughter-in-law, John R. and Jeanne Chapman of McLeansboro; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Louise and Roger Jensen of Centralia, Shirley Harris of Carmi, and Patsy and Phil Jackson of Carmi; six grandchildren, Bob and wife Christy Chapman, Dan Chapman, Wesley Chapman, Amy and husband Zeek Garnett, Allison and husband Kenny Krajkovic, and Tim Atteberry; and three great-grandchildren, Levi, Caleb and Kaylee Chapman. She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Wilson, and two brothers, Ralph and James Simmons. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Stewart Street Baptist Church in Carmi, Brother Phil Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Stokes Chapel Cemetery near Crossville. Friends may call from 6 until 8 Friday evening at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro and after 8 a.m. until the service time Saturday at Stewart Street Baptist Church in Carmi. Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi is in charge of arrangements. Memorial gifts may be given to the Hamilton Memorial Hospital Foundation or Stewart Street Baptist Church and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home.
