Carmi Times Mon Nov 16 Carmi, Ill. - Doris Carroll, 82, Terre Haute, Ind., formerly of Carmi, passed away at 3:30 a.m. Nov. 14, 2009 at the Davis Garden Nursing Home in Terre Haute. She was a resident at Westminster Village Retirement Center for several years. She was a wife, mother and grandmother. Doris was born July 31,1927 in Epworth. She spent her early years living in Carmi. For the past 50 years she has resided in Terre Haute. She was employed as an administrative assistant in the CBS Personnel Office before her retirement in 1983. She was preceded in death by her mother, Gladys Chapman Hines of Carmi, and her husband of 40 years, John "Bud" Carroll, who she married Nov. 22, 1947 and who preceded her in death June 11, 1987. Survivors include a daughter, Paula Harper (Roger) of Carmel, Ind.; a grandson, Ryan Harper of Houston, Texas;; several nephews and friends. A private graveside service will be conducted at I.O.O.F Cemetery in Norris City. The family would like to express its gratitude to the staff of Westminster Village Retirement Center and VistaCare Hospice for their nurturing care of Doris.
