Carmi Times Tue Dec 08, 2009 Colorado - M.L. "Marty" Childress, 88, a former Carmi resident, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, in Loveland, Colo. Marty is survived by his four children, Wally (Barbara) Childress of Carmi, Gary (Debbie) Childress of Longmont, Colo., Connie (Ron) Leonard of Gunnison, Colo., and Martin Childress of Salt Lake City, Utah; six grandchildren, Mark (Lori) Childress of Mundelein, Marla (Steve) Webb of Newburgh, Ind., Kyla and Ryan Leonard of Gunnison, Colo., and Ben and Amy Childress of Salt Lake City, Utah; and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Childress was preceded in death by his wife, June Marie Childress. Viegut Funeral Home in Loveland, Colo. was in charge of arrangements. The family has requested that memorial gifts be made in Marty's name to any veterans' organization or that one send a care package to a soldier currently serving in Iraq or Afghanistan.
