Carmi Times Tue Jun 02, 2009 Carrier Mills - Leslie Pearce, 84, Carrier Mills, formerly of Harrisburg, passed away at 3:50 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at Carrier Mills Nursing Home. He was born June 8, 1924 in White County to the late Vernal R. and Pearl (Austin) Pearce. He married Virginia Hilliard on Saturday, June 14, 1947, and she preceded him in death on Wednesday, May 1, 2002. Les was a retired coal miner. He was a member of Dorrisville Baptist Church, the Harrisburg Lions Club and the Harrisburg Fraternal Order of Odd Fellows. Les is survived by one daughter, Sharon Hazley and husband Richard of Harrisburg; two granddaughters, Kristin Melton and husband Paul of Norris City and Andrea McGee and husband Bob of Mt. Prospect; and four great-grandchildren, MacKenzie Melton, Mazzi Melton, Karly McGee and Olivia McGee. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia; and one brother, Alexander Pearce. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Reed Funeral Chapel. Burial followed in Sunset Lawn Cemetery.
