Carmi Times Wed Jun 03, 2009 Carmi, Ill. - Jean York, 89, Carmi, passed away at 10:12 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. She was born Sept. 25, 1919 in Crawford County, the daughter of Leonard D. and Flora E. (Espy) Apple. She married Doyle Fredrick York April 5, 1942, and he preceded her in death May 28, 2001. Mrs. York was a homemaker and member of First United Methodist Church in Carmi. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Marilou and Mark Hamill of Malibu, Calif.; three grandchildren, Nathan, Griffin and Chelsea Hamill; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Elizabeth Barbre of Carmi, and Aleta and P.D. Ritchey of Evansville, Ind.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Carleton and Amy Apple of Enfield, and Max and Wanda Apple of Harrisburg; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Beck of Carmi. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lola Aker. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church of Carmi. Burial will be in White County Memorial Garden near Carmi. Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Mrs. York's body will lie in state after noon Saturday at the church. Memorial gifts may be given in Jean York's name to First United Methodist Church in Carmi or the American Lung Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.
