Interesting though, the Joseph Henry Masser, born in Ripley Co., MO and died in White Co., IL - the reverse of my Thomas Miller's birthplace and deathplace. Thomas's wife Lenora was a Massey b. in TN) and I have seen variations on that name - Massey, Massie, Massa, etc., so Masser could certainly have been a variation of that family name.
