Carmi Times Mon Jun 01, 2009| Santee, Calif. - James "Toddy" Gidcumb, 81, Santee, Calif., died Sunday, May 17, 2009 at his home. He was born May 24, 1927 in White County. He lived in Carmi and graduated from Carmi Township High School. Mr. Gidcumb spent four years in the U.S. Navy as a yeoman first class in Hawaii, and he later graduated from Southern Illinois University and went on to pursue a career with GMAC for 38 years. During this time he lived in several cities across the U.S. before retiring in Santee 20 years ago. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Shirley Shaver Gidcumb, also of Carmi. He leaves behind two daughters, Debbie and Suzan of San Diego, Calif.; three grandchildren, of New York, N.Y.; a sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Houston Hughes of Carmi; and nieces, nephews and several cousins. There will be a memorial service Aug. 10, with full military honors, at Fort Rosecrans Cemetery in Santee. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. charge of arrangements.
