Carmi Times Fri Jun 05, 2009 Carmi, Ill. - Alberta J. (Nau) Lane, 86, Evansville, Ind., passed away Thursday, June 4, 2009, at Angel River Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Jan. 19, 1923 and was the last of six siblings. As a child she received an award for nine consecutive years of perfect attendance at Christian Union Church with Pastor Rolls. Her first job was at the Evansville Cigar Factory, and then she became a seamstress for Infield Manufacturing for Spiegel's and Alden's catalogs. Alberta was a produce farmer's wife and helped in the fields. She loved and adored her family and was known for her homemade biscuits. Alberta enjoyed crossword puzzles. She was a current member of Landmark Baptist Church and was a former member of First Christian Church in Carmi. Alberta was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Lane; stepdaughter, Marie Hobbs; son, Albert Lane; stepson, William Lane; daughters, Dixie Robinson and Sandra Wheeler; great-great grandson, Noe Southard Hughes; three brothers; two sisters; and son-in-law, Anthony Wheeler. She is survived by her caregivers and daughters, Joyce Harris Cowell and husband, David, and Lois Brooks and husband, Richard. Alberta is also survived by her sons, Dennis Lane and wife, Judy, and Greg Lane; 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2009, at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois St., Evansville, officiated by Bro. Barry Kirves, with burial at Locust Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit Sunday from 2 until 8 p.m. at Alexander West Chapel and Monday from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
