Carmi Times Tue Jun 16, 2009 Columbia - John L. Elliott, 84, Columbia, Ill., formerly of Carmi, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville. He was born Feb. 15, 1925, in Carmi. He was married Sept. 14, 1952 in Carmi to Lola S. (Sailer) Elliott, who survives him. Mr. Elliott was a member of Concord Baptist Church in St. Louis. He was a retired Electrolux vacuum cleaner salesman and served with the Navy during World War II. Also surviving are his children, Jane (Ken) Hill of Maryland Heights, Mo., Janet Drake of The Woodlands, Texas, and Michael (Joni) Elliott of Wheeler; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank (Pat) Elliott of Carmi; and two sisters, Genell Howell of Carmi and Mary Lou (Robert) Veatch-Mars of Cave Creek, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chandos A. and Ada (Brockett) Elliott, two brothers and a sister. Visitation was from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 15, at Concord Baptist Church in St. Louis. Funeral services were at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Concord Baptist Church, the Rev.
