Carmi Times Tue Aug 04, 2009 LINCOLN, CALIF. - Barbara (Cluck) Linn, 82, died July 31, 2009 after a battle with leukemia at her home in Lincoln, Calif. She was born Oct. 7, 1926 in Evansville, Ind., the daughter of Eloise (Widener, later Leathers) and John Cluck. She attended Carmi Township High School, graduating in 1944 as the valedictorian. She did her nurses' training at Northwestern University in Chicago, graduating in 1947 with a degree in nursing. She was active in the Professional Educational Organization and the Red Hat Society and was, while a resident of Coronado, Calif., a member of the San Diego Country Club. Mrs. Linn had many friends and loved them and her family. She loved life, music, concerts, plays and her bridge club. She was a resident, at various times of her life, of communities in Illinois and Indiana, as well as Coral Gables, Fla., Tucson, Ariz., Coronado and Palm Desert, Calif. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Gardner of Truckee, Calif., and Pamela Padilla of Seattle, Wash.; four grandchildren, Robert Burns of San Rafael, Calif., Elizabeth Evans of Phoenix, Ariz., David Burns of Worcester, Mass., and Barbara Sloate of Seattle, Wash.; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Phyllis Cowden, formerly of Carmi and now of Midland, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Helmuth, William Brady and Robert Linn. A service will be held Aug. 10 at First Presbyterian Church in Roseville, Calif. The body will be cremated and her ashes will be scattered off Coronado.
