Carmi Times Mon Aug 31 Carmi, Ill. - Richard Leon Kilmer, 82, Carmi, died Saturday, August 29, 2009, at his home. He was born June 19, 1927, in Texas City, Illinois, the son of Richard H. and Cecil (French) Kilmer. He was a retired electrician. Mr. Kilmer was a member of Maunie Methodist Church in Maunie and a World War II Navy veteran. He was a past member of the VFW and American Legion. Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Birklow, and her husband, Jim, of Evansville, Ind.; a half-brother, William Thaxton, and his wife, Shirley of Eldorado; a half-sister, Linda Thaxton of Eldorado; and a granddaughter, Melissa Vines of Newburgh, Ind. He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Cecil Kilmer, and three brothers, Edward French, Thomas French and James Kilmer. There will be no prior visitation. Graveside service is at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, at Big Prairie Cemetery near Carmi. Military rites will be conducted by the VFW and American Legion Color Guard and the Illinois Army National Guard Military Honors Team. Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi is in charge of arrangements.
