Carmi Times Thu Aug 20, 2009 Carmi, Ill. - William "Bill" Whitsitt, 77, Smyrna, Tenn., died Aug. 18, 2009. He was born Aug. 22, 1931 in White County, the son of Hubert and Clara Ude Whitsitt, and attended Carmi schools. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Elizabeth Bratton; and four brothers, Chester, Lester, Hubert and Kenneth Whitsitt. Mr. Whitsitt was a member of Smyrna First Free Methodist Church and a retired minister. He worked for Oral Roberts Ministry and The Salvation Army in Florida as planned giving director. Mr. Whitsitt was a Korean War veteran. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Deloris (Stokes) Whitsitt; children, Jeff (Carolyn) Whitsitt of Nashville, Tenn., and Debbie (Jim) Grantham of Smyrna; grandchildren, Teressa (Don) Shrout and Shawn Edwards, also of Smyrna; great-grandchildren, Madison, Whitsitt and Riley Shrout, Samantha South, and Jordon Edwards; two sisters, Frances Whetstone of Carmi and Jennie Lamont of Florida; a brother, John Whitsitt of Kansas; and several nieces and nephews in this area. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice. Private funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 20 at Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna, with Ricky Reed officiating. Entombment followed in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
