Carmi Times Fri Aug 14, 2009 Michigan - James E. Oliver, Ph.D. 83, of Dearborn, Mich., formerly of Norris City, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009 at Henry Ford Hospital. He was born Dec. 13, 1925 in Norris City, the son of Everett Robb and Marium Ganella (Henson) Oliver. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary E. (Fearnside) Oliver, who preceded him in death Jan. 16, 2002. Mr. Oliver retired from GM-Cadillac after 33 years and retired from Henry Ford Community College after 24 years. He was affectionately known as "Doc." He was a member of the Masons and V.F.W. in Norris City. He was the dear father of Mary Ellen (Donald) Hlavaty, Lisa (William) Vezzosi, Laura (Davey Wessels) Oliver and the late William; father-in-law of Christine Day (Robert La Fond); dear grandfather of Michael and Dallas Geyer, Jackson and Adrian Oliver; and brother-in-law of Yvonne Suzie Oliver. Visitation was Friday at Howe-Peterson Funeral Home in Dearborn. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City, with Masonic Rites at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at Norris City First United Methodist Church at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17, the Revs. Randy McGeehon and Janet Roy officiating. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Norris City, with military graveside services. Memorials contributions in James Oliver's memory may be made to the Josephine Ford Cancer Center. Contributions will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home.
