Carmi Times Mon Mar 01, 2010 Carmi, Ill. - Helen L. Whitsitt, 89, of Carmi, passed away at 7:24 a.m. Monday, March 1, 2010 at Phoenix Rehab and Nursing Center in Carmi. She was born April 19, 1920. She married Chester Vertis Whitsitt June 7, 1941, and he preceded her in death April 22, 2002. She was a homemaker and a member of Carmi First Pentecostal Church. Surviving are a sister, F. Frances Doneghue of Chaffee, Mo.; a brother, Leland Crocker of Norris City; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Phyllis Jean Whitsitt; a son, Kelly Whitsitt; a sister, Pearl Crocker; and four brothers, Edward, Walter, Julius and Mack Crocker. Graveside funeral and burial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, at North Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi, with the Rev. Bob Pollard officiating. Friends and family are asked to meet at the cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to The Phoenix Foundation and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, which is in charge of arrangements.
