Carmi Times Fri Mar 19, 2010 Carmi, Ill. - Cecil Gwaltney, 93, Carmi, died at 5:30 a.m. Friday, March 19, 2010 at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. He was born March 19, 1917 in Carmi, the son of Walter and Bertha May (Doshier) Gwaltney. He married Edith Wicker on Aug. 8, 1955, and she preceded him in death on May 25, 2008. Mr. Gwaltney was a retired foreman maintenance way employee of the L & N Railroad. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW posts in Carmi. He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Don Anderson of Enfield, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother, Glen Gwaltney, and one sister, Fern Jones. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 21, at the Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, Mike Fields officiating. Burial will be in White County Memorial Garden, with Military Rites by the combined units of the Carmi VFW and American Legion posts.
