Carmi Times Fri Mar 05, 2010 Burnt Prairie, Ill. - Velma E. Stewart, 96, Burnt Prairie, died at 1:45 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Nature's Trail Nursing Home in Mt. Vernon, Ill. She was born March 8, 1913 at Burnt Prairie, the daughter of Arthur and Louella Finch King, and was married Nov. 14, 1931 in White County to Harry Stewart, who died Dec. 8, 1973. Mrs. Stewart was a homemaker and attended Mt. Pleasant Primitive Baptist church as a child. Surviving are two daughters-in-law, Marquetta Stewart of Mt. Vernon, Ill. and Pat Vaughan of Fairfield; a sister, Doris Sanders of Texas; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, four sisters, five brothers and one great-great-granddaughter. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 6 at Maple Hill Cemetery in Fairfield, Brother Art Christmas officiating. Friends may call from 1 p.m. Saturday until the service time at Nale's Funeral Home in Fairfield.
