Louis "Louie" H. Fleck, 82, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2010, at Westpark Rehabilitation Center. Louie was a graduate of the University of Illinois, where he earned a Bachelor's and Master's degree. He transferred there from Olivet Nazarene College. He completed high school at Enfield, Ill. His first years of education were at Fleck Elementary School in rural Enfield. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Louie was a school teacher, having taught junior high in Uniontown, Ky., high school in Martinsville, Ind., and 22 years at Harrison High School before his retirement in 1988. Prior to teaching, he worked in purchasing at Whirlpool for five years. Louie grew up on a farm and in 1970, he returned to help on the family farm. Upon his father's death in 1976, Louie took over the operation of the farm. He was a member of the Nazarene Church and attended Faith Church of the Nazarene. Louie loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed traveling with his family, especially when the children were young. Louie is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen F. (Wilson) Fleck of Evansville; children, Gwendolyn E. Fleck of Evansville, Louis W. Fleck (Joan) of Cartersville, Ga., Emil S. Fleck (Nancy) of Evansville, Franzy D. Fleck (Kristy) of Evansville and Sharon K. Wilson of Fort Branch, Ind.; sister, Thelma Barbre of Floyd Knobs, Ind.; brothers, John Fleck (Judy) of Louisville, Ky., and Robert Fleck (Shirley) of Martinsville, Ind.; sisters-in-law, Donna, Peggy and Beverly Fleck and Mary Goodwin; 8 grandchildren, Courtney Levy (Matt), Louisa Koebrich (Doug), Emil S. Fleck II, Alexandra, Orin and Connor Wilson, Tyler and Gentry Fleck; great-grandchild, Jack Levy; many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews; and several cousins. Louie is preceded in death by parents, Jacob Louis and Faye Marie Fleck, sister, Dorotha Lovelace, and brothers, Kenneth Fleck, Paul Fleck, Donald Fleck and Thurman Fleck. Funeral services 11 a.m. Thursday, January 7, 2010, at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., with Rev. Dean Mitchell officiating. The committal service will be held at Enfield Cemetery in Enfield, Ill., at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Friends may visit from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at Browning Funeral Home and also Thursday from 9 a.m. to service time.
