    3. Carmi Times Wed Jan 06, 2010 Princeton, Ill. - Donald Pretzsch, 84, Princeton, Ill., died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton. Born March 1, 1925, in Crossville to Fred and Violet (Slankard) Pretzsch, he married Betty Jo Kornegger in 1950. She survives. He graduated from the University of Illinois and worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture as district conservationist for the Bureau County Soil and Water Conservation District. After his retirement in 1983, he established Pretzsch Agriculture Services, a farm appraisal and management business. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II on the U.S.S. Wasp in the Pacific Theatre. He was active in restoration of native prairie grass areas in Bureau County and northern Illinois. He was a member of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, Bureau County Natural Area Guardians, The Nature Conservancy and the Bureau County Farm Bureau. Also surviving are two sons, Ed (Judy) of Falls Church, Va., and Tim (Dona) of Evanston; two sisters, Nola Blanton of St. Louis, Mo., and Carol Young of Lawrenceville; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9 at Norberg Memorial Home, Princeton, with the Revs. Bea Hoover-Mulvany and Barbara Ollila officiating. Burial will be private and at a later date. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Illinois Chapter of The Nature Conservancy.
