CARMI, Ill., - Genevieve "Jan" Kingery, 87, passed away at 11:45 p.m. Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Ind. Her children and grandchildren were at her bedside. She was born March 4, 1922, the daughter of James and May Miller-Baker of Galatia, Ill. She was married to Paul J. Kingery on September 23, 1941. He preceded her in death on January 26, 1986. Jan was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was affectionately called "Sugar" by the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a longtime member of Cherry Street General Baptist Church. Jan is survived by her daughter, Connie Loyd and husband, Fred, of Carmi; son, Gary Kingery and wife, Anita, of Carmi; and son, Ron Kingery and wife, Sher, of Carmi. She was also survived by 10 grandchildren, Ronnie Paul Kingery of Nashville, Tenn., Davy Schaffer of Las Vegas, Nev., Gary Keith Kingery of Floyds Knobs, Ind., Jeff Kingery of New Harmony, Ind., Kim Worlds of Crossville, Ill., Ryan Kingery of Newark, Del., Leigh Pemberton Cook of Carmi, Ill., Brian Kingery of Mt. Carmel, Ill., Adam Kingery of Carmi and Brittany Loyd of Carmi. She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren as well as a sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Darrell Miller of Galatia, Ill., and several nieces and nephews. Jan was preceded in death by a brother, James Edward Baker, sisters, Lena Hafford, Beualah Watson, Halene Hayes, Janice Lance and Evelyn Hulett. Funeral services for Genevieve "Jan" Kingery, 87, of Carmi will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at Cherry Street Baptist Church in Carmi, with the Rev. Mike officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi. Friends may call Monday, February 1, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, Ill., and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to service time at the church. Published in Courier Press on January 31, 2010
