    3. Carmi Times Wed Jan 27, 2010 Carmi, Ill. - Mrs. Dorothe Dartt Roser passed away peacefully at the Oaks in Savannah, Ga. on Jan. 24, 2010. She was 94 years old. Dorothe was preceded in death by her sister, Wilma; her brothers, John and Mathew; and by Kermit Roser, her loving husband of 62 years, who died in 2000. Born on July 24, 1915 in Maunie, where she spent her childhood, Dorothe earned a certificate in teaching from Northern State Teachers College, now Northern Illinois University, and returned to her hometown school to teach sixth, seventh and eighth grades. Following her marriage in 1938, she joined her husband, an infantry officer in the United States Army, for his military assignments in Colorado, California, Georgia and Panama. She returned to Illinois while he served with the Third Army in the European Theater from 1944 to 1946. Following World War II, Dorothe moved to Washington, D.C., where she again taught school and held various positions in government and business during her husband's government career. Upon their retirement, she pursued her hobbies of gardening and decorating at their homes in Washington and Dunedin, Fla. With her husband's death, she moved to Hilton Head Island, S.C., where she resided until her most recent move to Savannah. She is survived by Toni Harrington, her only daughter, and her son-in-law, Kent, of Savannah, and by her niece, Bernita Lyons of Louisville, Ky. A commemoration of her life will be scheduled in the near future. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Hilton Head. Island Funeral Home in Hilton Head is responsible for funeral arrangements.
