Carmi Times Tue Jan 05, 2010 Burnt Prairie - Ivan Elliott, 92, passed away Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010 at his home near Burnt Prairie. He was born Aug. 14, 1917 in Gray Township, White County, the son of Johnnie and Cora (Ridenour) Elliott. He married Elizabeth Joyce "Betty" Gabel Oct. 15, 1949, and she preceded him in death Oct. 14, 2004. He was a farmer, a member of St. Polycarp Catholic Church in Carmi and a veteran of World War II, receiving a Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Farm Bureau. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Lou Hagler of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Cathy Elliott of Princeton, Ind.; and six grandchildren, Louis and Cheryl Hagler, and Sara, Jennifer, Chelsea and Taylor Elliott. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Polycarp Catholic Church in Carmi, the Rev. Stephen Rudolphi officiating. Burial will be in St. Polycarp Cemetery in Carmi. Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, where a prayer service will be held at 5 p.m.
