Carmi Times Sat Feb 20, 2010 Carmi, Ill. - Rosalie Blackard, 85, Carmi, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at Phoenix Rehabilitation and Nursing Care in Carmi. She was born Oct. 1, 1924, in Omaha, the daughter of Lawrence C. and Gladys (Miner) Blackard. She was a retired secretary for Monsanto Corp. in St. Louis, Mo., where she also owned and operated a sewing and alteration business called "Fit 'Em All." She was a member of First Christian Church in Carmi and served as a hospice volunteer and a literacy volunteer through Southeastern Illinois College. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Ruth Blackard of Marion, Ind.; and cousins, Claude Miner and his wife, Marthan, and Barbara Lack and her husband, Glen, all of Carmi, and Maude Bunting and her husband, Wayne, of Albion. Preceding her in death are her parents, Lawrence and Gladys Blackard; a brother, Dean Blackard; and a nephew, Ronald Blackard. Visitation and funeral service are Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi. Visitation is at noon and continues until the funeral time at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Palestine No. 2 Cemetery in Omaha. Memorials may be made to The Phoenix Foundation and will be accepted at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi.
