    3. Carmi Times Sun Feb 14, 2010 Carmi, Ill. - Dorothy Jo (Belva) Logan was born June 22, 1923 in Carmi, Ill. She was born in the Stewart Crebs house, which is now Campbell Funeral Home. Her parents were Victor Edward and Emma (Smith) Belva. Jo was the youngest of three sisters, Louise, and Bernice and a brother who died in infancy. She attended Carmi Grade and High Schools and graduated with the Class of 1941. Jo worked for a year for the Illinois Commercial Telephone Co. and on June 26, 1942 was married to her high school sweetheart, William R. "Bill" Logan, who preceded her in death. Bill and Jo were married in the living room of their new home located at 602 Elm St. They both lived together at this address until their admission to Wabash Christian Retirement Center in 2008. Bill was drafted for service in World War II in 1942 but was rejected due to active tuberculosis which had killed his father, Larry, a veteran of World War I. Both he and Jo began working at Chrysler Corp. in the same year and made military armaments for the war effort, including .45 caliber and .30 caliber M-1 carbine bullets. In 1945 they had their first child, Mark, and then Kent was born in 1951. Jo was very active in both of her sons' school activities. She was a member of First Baptist Church and had an active part in the Martha Sunday School class, the Erica Morres Missionary Circle and was a W.O.M. Officer. Jo helped one morning each week at local schools with first grade reading and other classroom activities. Jo was an avid golfer, and she and Bill were charter members of the Carmi Country Club, joining in 1951. She was also a member of the Illinois Farm Bureau, American Legion and VFW auxiliary, a Kentucky Colonel and preceptor of the Beta Sigma Phi. Jo was an avid reader and a strong and lifelong supporter of the Carmi Public Library. Jo is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Martha Logan of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Kent and Linda Logan of Shelbyville, Ky. She has one granddaughter, Holly Belva (Logan) Henry of Oak Ridge, Tenn. Visitation is from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi. Funeral is at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi, with burial in Big Prairie Cemetery near Carmi.
