    3. Carmi Times Mon Feb 08, 2010 New Haven, Ill. - Richard Williams Jr., 82, New Haven, died peacefully Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 at the home of his loving daughter from an extended illness. Junior, as most called him, was born in Herald on Nov. 18, 1927 to the late Richard Williams Sr. and Renda Mae (Catlin) Williams. Junior served his country honorably in the United States Army, working in the military police. After returning home from the Army, Junior spent most of his years in the timber logging business, but he also worked in construction. He was an avid outdoorsman, loving to hunt and fish. He was a St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan, following the team for many years. Junior was a member of the New Haven American Legion, where he looked after the military rites squadron for many years. He was also a member of the Carmi VFW Men's Auxiliary. He was a very caring person, always willing to help out if needed and always had a smile for you. Junior was a good father, grandfather, brother and friend, and he will be greatly missed by the New Haven Community. Junior is survived by three daughters, Mary Williams of New Haven, Vicki O'Neal of Evansville, Ind. and Frances Rush of Carmi; two sons, Kenny Williams and Eric Williams, both of New Haven; one brother, John Robert Williams of Norris City; one sister, Fleeta Guffy of Altamont; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Junior is preceded in death by six sisters and three brothers. Visitation for Junior was from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7 at Cox and Son Funeral Home in New Haven. The funeral was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 8 at the funeral home in New Haven, the Rev. Sonny Jackson officiating. Interment was in Heralds Prairie Cemetery.
