Carmi Times Tue Feb 16, 2010 Carmi, Ill. - Evelyn (Miner) Gross, 84, Carmi passed away at 9:50 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010 at Phoenix Rehab & Nursing in Carmi. She was born Aug. 28, 1925 in Omaha, the daughter of Harry Larue and Margaret J. (Crayne) Miner. She married Cecil George Gross. Evelyn was a graduate of Norris City High School and had worked as a cashier at Big John's. She was a member of Omaha General Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Cecil of Carmi; a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Ann and Eddie Weaver of Carmi; a son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Pat Gross of Carmi; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Maude and Wayne Bunting of Albion and Barbara and Glen Lack of Carmi; a brother and sister-in-law, Claude and Marthan Miner of Carmi; a sister-in-law, Twila Miner of Omaha; four grandchildren and their spouses, Bryan and Michelle Weaver of Carmi, Matt and Christy Gross of Union, Ky., Trevor and Diane Weaver of Evansville, Ind., and Mitch and Mary Ann Gross of Carmi; eight great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Patsy Artman; and two brothers, Carl and Charles Miner. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, with Jason Miner and Steve McClure officiating. Burial will be in North Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi. Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial gifts may be given in Evelyn's name to The Phoenix Foundation and will be accepted at the funeral home.
