I have seen it in census records in Hamilton County as Gatland, Gattin, and Gatlin. Others besides myself have traced the Gatlin Family back to North Carolina. Harriett's father, Edward Gatlin Sr. was born there. In Eli's Pension Record, dated February 16, 1888, he is making a declaration to the US Army for Disability received while in the Service (Mexican War). It states: That I am a widower, that the maiden name of my wife was Harriett Gatlin, to whom I was married at Hamilton County, in the State of Illinois, on the 3rd day of November, A.D., 1843; that my wife is now dead, having died on the 25th day of December, A.D., 1870, at Hamilton County, in the State of Illinois; that I have since remarried. That the name of my present wife is Sarah C. Willis, now divorced from me. At that time, Eli was living in Wapole, Hamilton County, Illinois. Andrew Askey, also from Hamilton County and a brother in law to Eli was his witness at the signing of the declaration. The two names, Albert and Edward who you found in Saline County could very well be his sons, because in his Pension Records dated Feb 8, 1881, Eli S. Willis has requested an address change be made from Flannigan Township in Hamilton County to Hall Town in Saline County, Illinois. According to the National Archives-Army Veterans Records-Declaration for Widow's Pension-Nov 22, 1895, Eli S. Willis' marriage to Elizabeth S. Burris occurred in Hamilton County on October 28, 1888. Gail, I also hold a Declaration for Widow's Pension, dated November 22, 1895, where Elizabeth A. (Burris) Willis is making a claim for Eli's Pension. In this claim, she is living in Epworth, White County, Illinois, and she states that she married Eli S. Willis on the 28th day of October, 1888, at Hamilton County, Illinois. In another General Affidavit made by Elizabeth A. Willis, dated April 23, 1898, she is residing at Asherville, Stoddard County, Missouri. So in searching for where she might have died and was buried, I would start in Stoddard County, Missouri. Ron Sanders Prospect, KY

Davis Willis, there are 3 children listed w/ no information: James son ? ? dau ? Thomas J. son ? Who do you reckon these kids belong to? Harriett? Sarah? The ? dau ? could be Cassandra, she would be about 15 years old in 1880?
