Peacock was born January 15, 1815 in Lincolshire. That is the recording made in family records by descendants. James E. Peacock married after his first wife, Alice Clifton, passed in 1890. In 1892 at the age of almost 78 he took a bride of the age of 24. In the recording of this marriage his father was given as Peacock and his mother as ANA HAFFORD. There is a recording of a christening for James Peacock on January 20 1815, Sutterton, Lincoln, England. His parents are given as James Peacock and ANNE ? In following up the marriage records for his parents, the marriage record shows that James Peacock married ANN ARFORTH on July 18, 1808 in Quadring, Lincoln, England. I think it is possible that the Hafford and Arforth may be one and the same...the name most likely recorded correctly in England. The english accent of the era often silenced an H and gave the vowel A an 'aw' sounding. My father once told me that we were distantly related to Mr. ALFORD near Simpson Switch. I have even given the name Alford some credibility as being Ann's last name...though it is not recorded as such. Also, I am now attempting to determin if James had children by the second marriage to Mrs. Ida May Brewer. Her maiden name had been Aiken; the d/o Robert Aiken and Nelly Dickey.
