I don't know if you received an answer , but by going to ; http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/databases.html you can search for anyone who may have had a death certificate issued in the state of Illinois between 1916 and 1950. From there you can order two at a time, waiting for those to arrive before ordering more. I think this site was placed on-line in either April or May 2002. Prior to this site you could order death cert., but I think you needed an approximate death date and it didn't take as long, but since this new site started up I think they have had more requests than they thought , so it does seem to be taking longer. At least some are starting to get the earlier orders , so now we just sit and be patient.
