As far as I know, there was only the one Fred Layman in Carmi. I need to update my FTM files, but here is a bit of information to get the ball rolling. Family history tells of Fred Layman arriving in America with a brother. No one knows what became of him. Fred's son, John, (one of two by Mary Younginger,) supposedly died as a very young child, so here things get complicated. We'll have to dig deeper and sort everything out. I do have Fred's Civil War Pension file and will be putting it online when I get a chance. His widow, my great grandmother, was Mary Downen Layman, daughter of David Robinson Downen and Mary Jane South. Here's the postable version of my Family Tree Maker material.
