I am looking for information on a Fred Layman who was married to, or at least had children with, a Mary Ann Hoffmann/Huffman. My GG Grandfather is their son, John Layman. In John's marriage record to Sarah Josephine Phillips, he lists his father and mother and says his father was born in Germany and his mother was born in Indiana. If any of this ties in, please contact me at arharris@qwickconnect.net Thanks so much, happy hunting, and have a great Thanksgiving! Anita R. Surnames: Layman, Downen Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Yh.2ADE/810.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi, Anita. As far as I know, there was only the one Fred Layman in Carmi. I need to update my FTM files, but here is a bit of information to get the ball rolling. Family history tells of Fred Layman arriving in America with a brother. No one knows what became of him. Fred's son, John, (one of two by Mary Younginger,) supposedly died as a very young child, so here things get complicated. We'll have to dig deeper and sort everything out. I do have Fred's Civil War Pension file and will be putting it online when I get a chance. His widow, my great grandmother, was Mary Downen Layman, daughter of David Robinson Downen and Mary Jane South. Here's the postable version of my Family Tree Maker material. The names of living relatives have been removed to protect their privacy. Sorry this is hard to read; it doesn't paste normally from the genealogy report, but at least the information is there.
