In case you have decided that your Newton is son of Jesse and Martha, I found Jesse listed as Wm J Smith in 1860 in White Co IL. I misread Newtons age in 1870, that was a sixteen, they made a loop and it looked like a four to me. So if this is your Newton look for a marriage in Tennessee. Jesse and Newton were born in Tennessee so you might find Jesse somewhere in Tennessee in 1850 if this is the person you are really looking for. I looked around abit for that Jesse and Newton Smith. I found Jesse in the 1870 White Co, he had a son named Newton, 12 years old, the wife was a Martha. There is a marriage on IRAD for a Jesse Smith in Gallatin Co IL in I believe 1858, her name was Lucy, I forget the last name. He seems to be married to another woman in 1900. So I guess he could have had Newton before the marriage to the Martha but the year looks about right. IRAD is free so check it out if you have not already done so. I found probates for a Rebecca Smith in 1912, the Jesse record just showed it was a death record 70-P-21, I am not sure what that means unless it is book 70 page 21. Maybe someone else can clear that up for you. Jerry

I did a little searching for you and am sending what I found. More questions than answers I think. This is very confusing, it looks as if William E Hardin may have been a son of Margaret Parker Rukes/Rooks. I can spend some more time on this if you want. Do you have any additional facts? Hardin (DOB 2-12-1893), who was the son of William Hardin & Maggie Rooks. In looking at your threads, I'm wondering if Maggie Rooks is the same person as Maggie (Margaret) Grandstaff or Maggie (Margaret) Parker. There are (2) marriages recorded in the White CO IL Marriage directory between William Hardin and Maggie Grandstaff on 5/3/1897, and William Hardin & Maggie Parker on 4/9/1893. I've been told he was a Cherokee Indiana who had 5 wives. Please let me know if anyone out there can make a connection! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
