    3. OBITUARY: Kathryn Hines Posted August 28. 2012 7:11AM * Kathryn Hines, 96, of Carmi died early Sunday morning August 26, 2012 at the Wabash Christian Retirement Center. Born Anna Kathryn Hines on March 12, 1916 in Emma Township, she lived her entire life in the White County area. Kathryn operated a beauty shop almost all of her adult life, first on Main Street with her sister, Louise, and then out of her home. She was also an insurance agent for several years with Bankers Life and Casualty. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Nina Hines, her sister and brother in-law, Louise and James Jordan, her brother and sister in-law, H.W. "Sonny" and Doris Lee Hines, her beloved nephew, Larry Jordan, and her special friend of many years, Chet Carter. She is survived by her nephew, Mike Hines and wife Anita, niece Barbara Mueller and husband Glenn, niece Debbie Nelson, niece D'Ann Jordan, cousin Gwen Hines, and dear friends Diane Cox and Dr. Steven Turner as well as numerous other friends, cousins, grand nieces and grand nephews. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 30 at Union Ridge Cemetery near Norris City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy or the ALS Association. Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi is in charge of arrangements.

Vernon Nursing and Rehab in Mt. Vernon, Ind. He was born July 9, 1926 in New Haven, the son of Clyde and Flossie (Melton) Goforth. He married Mary Margaret Hale August 7, 1946 and she preceded him in death May 27, 2011. Harlis was a member of the Union Ridge Presbyterian Church. He was a WWII Naval Veteran and a life member of the Ridgway V. F. W. Surviving are a daughter Janice Gail Goforth of McHenry; four sons and daughters-in-law Timothy Scott and Donna Goforth of Kenosha, Wis., Ronald Duane and Kathy Goforth of Lindenhurst, Gary Lynn and Glenna Goforth of Dillsboro, Ind., and Eddie Gene and Lori Goforth of Gainsville, Ga.; a daughter-in-law Jackie Cooper of Mulkeytown; three Sisters Deloris Cathey of New Haven, Linda and "Carl Wright of Norris City, and Patsy and John Phillips of Evansville, Ind.; two brothers and sisters-in-law Donald Ray and Rose Goforth of Emma, and Kenneth and Betty Goforth of New Haven; 11 grandchildren nine great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Larry Wayne Cooper; a sister June Goforth; four brothers Larry, Carl, Paul, and Burtis Goforth. Funeral services for Harlis W. Goforth, 86, of New Haven, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at the Union Ridge Presbyterian Church with Pastor Kathy Dunn officiating. Burial will be in the Union Ridge Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion and V. F. W. Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 28 at the Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.

    3. * OBITUARY: Joseph George Wilson Posted August 23. 2012 1:00PM * Joseph George Wilson was born January 16, 1916 in Carmi, the son of George and Katie Weaver Wilson. He graduated with a BS degree at the University of Illinois in 1937 and then earned his CPA. He worked as a public accountant with Deloitte and Touche and Coopers and Lybrand in St. Louis, Mo. During World War II, he spent four years in the Pacific Ocean Theatre of Operation and at Okinawa. He captained a LST Boat and reached the rank of Lt. Commander. Following the war, he spent 25 years as a corporate auditor for General Motors Overseas. He retired in 1975. He and his wife Marian spent six months of the year in Boca Raton, Fla. and later Punta Gorda, Fla. and the other half of the year in Champaign, before moving to Southern Pines in 1994. Joseph was married to Marian Carleton of Champaign from 1940 until 1994 when she died. He was an avid, accomplished golfer, photographer and woodworker. He especially enjoyed making furniture. Joseph married Ailene B. Speight in Pinehurst, N.C. in 1995. They enjoyed traveling and playing bridge together and he earned many ACBL points. Joseph was a member of Brownson Presbyterian Church in Southern Pines. He spent the last two years of this life at Pine Knoll where he died peacefully August 22, 2012. He leaves his wife, Ailene S. Wilson, of the home and nephews, Charles Wilson and wife, Puri, Donald and wife, Mary, of Columbia, Mo., and Joe Wilson and wife, Glenda, of Carmel, N.Y., niece, Janice Jaafari, of San Antonio, Tx. and many great nephews and nieces. A graveside service for family and friends will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Pinelawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel in Southern Pines. Jeff was a minister and member of the New Life Apostolic Church in Carmi. He enjoyed walking, fishing, bible study and witnessing his faith to others. Tom was born October 5, 1933 in Carmi, the son of David Paul and Frances Louise (Setser) Hall. He married Vonnie Ross on September 6, 1954. Tom was a longtime businessman with McCallister, Becker and Hall Insurance and Tom Hall Real Estate. He was a U.S. Navy Korean War veteran and was a member of Carmi's American Legion Post #224, V.F.W. Post #3851, the Elks and of the Carmi Country Club. Tom was an avid sportsman, especially hunting and fishing. He had a love/hate for playing in couples golf events with his wife. Tom is survived by his wife of 57 years, Vonnie of Carmi; a daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Jeff Cravens of Hopkinsville, Ky.; a son, David Hall of Carmi; a sister Joan Porter of Carmi; and a beloved granddaughter, Taylor Lee Merriss.     3. * OBITUARY: Gerald Frederick Wohlhueter Posted August 20. 2012 2:00PM * Gerald Frederick Wohlhueter, 92, passed away Friday, August 17, 2012. He was born May 3, 1920 in Maunie to the late Fred and Kate Wohlhueter. Gerald married Grace Pollard on Nov. 3, 1945. He worked at Western Auto in Carmi before he went into the service and again after he returned from his tour of duty. Gerald was a WWII Veteran where he was a staff sergeant in the Army until he was discharged in Oct. 1945. He worked at Inland Container for 32 years, retiring in 1982. Gerald was a member of Fairlawn United Methodist Church. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 1114. He loved working in his garden and doing yard work. Gerald will be greatly missed by his family and the many people he befriended over the years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Grace; daughter, Judy Morell; father and mother, Fred and Kate, his brothers, Gil, Ralph, Cyril, Oscar and Vic; and sisters, Agnes Gunther and Vivian Deffendahl. Gerald is survived by his son, Mike, and daughter-in-law, Terri, two grandsons, Jason (Cori) and Nick, and a very special great granddaughter Joanna Grace. He is also survived by his sister, Irene Millikan, of Champaign and nieces and nephews. Services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Rev. She was born May 23, 1913 in White County, IL the daughter of Tracy and Clara (Finney) Cunningham. Polly married John Hanselman on September 14, 1940 and he preceded her in death on February 6, 1952. She later married Burton W. Saunders and he preceded her in death on February 14, 1968. Polly was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church in Carmi. Polly is survived by a niece, Jo Anna Brinson of Bartlett, TN; four nephews, Michael W. Seitzinger of Ponte Vedra, FL, Dr. David Gershenson of Houston, TX, Steve Gershenson of Belleville, IL and USAF (Ret.) Lt. Col. Caarmi Times Posted August 15. 2012 10:00AM * Jasper, IN * * James Glen Williams, 90, of Jasper, Ind. and formerly of Grayville, died Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. He was born February 16, 1922, in Grayville, the son of James Glen Williams and Johanna (Schoenman) Williams. He was married to Amanta (Abron) Williams and she survives. Jim was a retired manager for what is now known as Grayville Auto Parts. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Grayville where he served as a Church Elder. He was an Army World War II veteran and member of the VFW. Among his pastimes were collecting coins and stamps and studying history and geography. He was an avid bowler and had a perfect game in January 1985. Survivors include his wife, Amanta Williams, of Jasper; sons Patrick (Marlene) Williams of Grayville and Eric (Katie) Williams of Jasper; daughter Christine (Steve) McCorkle of Mt. Carmel; brother Richard (Jessie) Williams of Grayville; sister Virginia (James R.) Endicott of Carmi; seven grandchildren, Jamie (Christina) McCorkle, Stephanie (Don) Price, Brandon (Jessica) Williams, Page Williams and her fiancé, Jordan McClusky, Aidan Williams, Chase Williams, and Alex Williams; four great grandchildren, Kaleigh Price, Kara Price, Elloit McCorkle and Sarah McCorkle; and several nieces and nephews.     3. Carmi Times, Posted Aug 10, 2012 @ 12:52 PM Norris City, IL James Gary Wilson, age 73, of Norris City died Tuesday, August 7, 2012 as result of an automobile accident in Mt. Vernon, Ind. Gary, as most knew him, was born in Gallatin County on September 13, 1938 to the late James and Dorothy (Cox) Wilson. On June 5, 1960, he married the former Phyllis (Pantier) Wilson and she preceded him in death in 2009. Gary worked most of his life as a boilermaker, first at B & W in Mt. Vernon, Ind. and then out of St. Louis before retiring. His real love, though, was his racehorses. He was well known throughout the Midwest for his horses he raised and raced. He also loved to garden and would always bring food every time he came to a house. Gary loved to visit with his friends and family. He was attending the Ridgway First Baptist Church in Ridgway and was a member of the Ridgway Masonic Lodge. Gary will be greatly missed. Gary is survived by two sons, Terry Wilson of Omaha and Chuck Wilson of Norris City, one daughter, Nancy (James) Majors of Springboro, Ohio, a brother, Larry (Elaine) Wilson of Rushville, one sister, Deanna Parks of Ft. Smith, Ark., and six grandchildren, Brandi, Cassie, Tawny and Sarah Wilson, Sophie and Olivia Majors. Visitation for Gary will be from 5 until 8 p.m. on Friday, August 10, 2012 at the Cox and Son Funeral Home in Ridgway.     3. SHANE FARRIS Shane Farris, age 36, of Enfield, died on Sunday, August 12, 2012, at University Hospital in Louisville, KY. Shane was an oil field mechanic and worked for Bankston Creek Land Trust. He loved to ride mountain bikes and belonged to Southern Illinois Free Ride. He enjoyed going to quad races with his son, Danyon. He was born October 1, 1975, the son of Frank Allen Farris Jr. and Shirley Farris and his step-father, Jim Veatch. He is survived by his wife, Amber, of Enfield; a son Danyon “Danny” Shane Farris of Enfield; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Shelly Moore of Rosiclare, Shana and Josh Knight of Carmi; and Tracey Kramer of Atlanta, GA; a brother, Ethan Veatch; three uncles, Morris Coffey of Louisville, KY, Bill McGhee of Hanover Park, IL, and Randy Dodson of Phoenix, AZ ; three aunts, Tina Anderson, Darla and Gary Vaughn, and Debbie and Robert Shockley; an uncle, Charles Farris; a step-grandmother, Anna Coffey; grandparents, Don and Laura Hildreth, and Dortha Ballard; a mother-in-law, Dana Ballard; a father-in-law, Craig Ballard; two brothers-in-law, Colt Ballard and Jason Ballard; a sister-in-law, Christina Ballard; and many cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 18, 2012, at Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Carmi. Burial will take place in North Maple Ridge in Carmi. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service in the funeral home chapel. Memorials are suggested to be made to the Farris Family Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.     3. Hi all, Many of the Illinois genweb sites have moved, including White County. There are redirects from the old locations, but the direct link is white.illinoisgenweb.org I know some of the links on the resources page are old, and many of the email addys on the site are ancient. The former I want to fix, but the latter are generally there for archival purposes. Its been a while since I have been able to update the genweb site so I'll be looking for submissions sent to me in the past few months, or anything new. Cindy

    3. Penny C. Marrone, 59, of Carmi, Illinois passed away at 11:35 A.M. on Friday, August 10, 2012 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri. She was born on Friday, January 23, 1953 in Glendale, California to Charles and Winifred Josephine (Ralston) Marrone. Penny is survived by her mother: Winifred Marrone of Mount Vernon, Illinois, two daughters: Sandi Smith of Bonnie, Illinois and Christina Petersen and husband Brandyn of Bluford, Illinois, six grandchildren: Rebekah Fjelstead of Houston, Texas; Nathanael Fjelstead of Bonnie, Illinois; Kadi Petersen of Bluford, Illinois; Emmali Petersen of Bluford, Illinois; Alyson Petersen of Bluford, Illinois, and William Petersen of Bluford, Illinois, and two brothers: John Marrone and wife Penny of Osage Beach, Missouri and Bill Marrone and wife Cecilia of Columbus, Ohio. Her father one grandchild: David Petersen preceded her in death Penny worked for Martin and Bailey as an assistant manager at Hucks In honor of Penny’s wishers, she will be cremated and no service will be held.

    3. Carmi Times, Posted Aug 10 , 2012 @0102 PM Eldrado, IL Harold Eugene "Gene" Bayless, 78, of Eldorado, formerly of Carmi, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012 at his residence in Eldorado. He was born February 16, 1934 in Doe Run, Mo. to Harry and Ola (Hardesty) Bayless. Gene served in the Army for four years. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict and a member of the American Legion Post No. 416 in Farmington, Mo. He was a member of the Eldorado Main Street and Eldorado Lion's Club. Gene was the owner of Bayless Real Estate in Eldorado for many years and was the manager of the Eldorado and Mill Shoals Waste Water. Prior to his move to Eldorado, Gene managed Rechter Brothers Department Stores in Carmi, Flora and Flat River, Mo. He owned Jack & Jill Shop and D & B Fabrics in Carmi and The Bayless Shop in Fairfield. He was a licensed real estate broker for many years thereafter Gene is survived by his wife, Janet, daughters, Kim Bayless of Grayville and Jana Bayless of Carmi, Gina (Sonny) Ndem of St. Louis, Mo. and Kim Childers of Evansville, Ind. Also surviving are grandchildren, Seth Owen, Macey Heil, Paxton and Jaxon Davis, Chaise Prince and Brianna Childers. Surviving sisters are Phyllis Rudolph of Herrin, Janet Courtney of St. Louis, Mo. and Norman (Francis) Roberts of Farmington, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Juanita Hahn, Ann Aubuchon, Glenda Bayless, Margaret Powell, Harry Bayless and Warren Bayless. Visitation for Gene will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10 at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11 at the funeral home.
