He was born April 30 1924 in Burnt Prairie, the son of Carson and Lula (Short) Pollard. He married Betty Lou Fields October 6, 1948 and she preceded him in death October 29, 2008. Murrel worked as a steam pipe fitter and was a member of U.A.W., and the Masonic Lodge in Mt. Vernon, Ind. He is survived by a son, Mickey Pollard of Peoria; a grandson, Kevin Kuykendall of Carmi; two great-grandchildren, Abbey and Kelsi Kuykendall; and a son-in-law, Roger Winter of Carmi. Murrel was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Connie Lou Winter; a grandson, Jason Kuykendall; and two sisters, Ruby Carter and Martha Faye Carter. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Mt. Olive Missionary Church in Peoria. Karen was born in Carmi on Jan. 3, 1950, the daughter of James L. and Ruth Lorene (Hall) Wageneck. She married Stephen Ewers on Aug. 31, 1968, in Peoria. He preceded her in death in July of 1983. She was also preceded in death by her father. She married Todd Jones on May 22, 1993, at Mt. Olive Missionary Church in Peoria. He survives. She is also survived by her mother, Ruth Lorene Wageneck of Peoria; son, Tyler S. (Anne) Ewers of East Peoria; stepdaughter, Cheri (Mike) Spicer of Hatton, N.D.; four step-grandchildren, Taylor Jones and Tyler, Emily and Kasey Spicer of Hatton, N.D.; and sisters-in-law, Denise (Greg) Hotz of Elmwood and Brenda (Mike) Frost and Chris (Ron) Buckley, all of Galveston, Ind. Karen was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Church in Peoria and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse for Proctor First Care in East Peoria and was formerly employed at Proctor Hospital. . OBITUARY: Maurice Hamblin . Maurice Hamblin, 76, of Carmi, passed away at 2:13 a.m. Sunday, November 25, 2012 at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. He was born November 25, 1936 in Carmi, the son of Fred and Verna (Holtzclaw) Hamblin. Maurice married Glenna Sue Wick May 29, 1982. Maurice was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and worked as a telephone service technician for GTE/Verizon for 32 years. He was a member of First Christian Church in Carmi and served on the Carmi City Council for eight years. He was an avid NASCAR and Richard Petty fan, a doting grandfather and loved helping his son-in-law, Mark, with farming. Maurice is survived by his wife of 30 years, Glenna Hamblin of Carmi; two daughters and sons-in-law, Myra and Mark Hillyard and Amy and Eric Balding all of Carmi; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Debra Hamblin of Albion; six sisters and three brothers-in-law, Vonda and Leon Groves of Carmi, Marie Bell of Harrisburg, Shirley and Ebert French of McLeansboro, Karen and Ray Yates of Carmi, Ellen Cherry of Carmi, and Lesa Hamblin; one brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Shirley Hamblin of Carmi; five grandchildren, April (Gary) Neafus, Katie (Kyle) Rynkiewich, Kristie Hillyard, Sadie Balding and Ridge Balding; and one great-granddaughter. He was born October 31, 1951 in Fairfield, the son of Robert Vernon and Doris Louella (Cagle) Finch. He was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion. Keith had a quick wit and lived a life that reflected loyalty to his friends and generosity in helping others. He spent most of his work career in Oklahoma and Florida. When he returned to Carmi, he focused on helping with the needs of his aging parents until their deaths. A man of many skills, he enjoyed his leisure reading and cooking with a creative flare. Keith is survived by a sister, Janice (John) Talbott of San Diego, Calif.; a brother, Jerry (Anita) Finch of Snohomish, Wash.; and a granddaughter, Anneleya Marie Finch. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Zack Finch. * OBITUARY: Martha Ashabraner * Nov. 13, 2012 2 p.m. * Norris City -- Martha Ashabraner, age 92, of Norris City, passed away Monday, November 12, 2012, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Evansville, Ind. She was born April 18, 1920, in Haydinburg, Tenn., the daughter of Mac W. and Gertie (Reeves) Jenkins. She married Earl E. Ashabraner August 27, 1945, in Hopkinsville, Ky., and he preceded her in death September 29, 2012. She is survived by her good friends, Karla and Bill Taylor and Mary and Gary Cates; in-laws, Sandra Pelas, Shirley Ashabraner, Jimmy Ashabraner and Eddie Ashabraner; and many friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Earl. A graveside funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 17, 2012 at White County Memorial Garden.
