. OBITUARY: Jeffrey S. Edwards * The Carmi Times - Carmi, IL Published in Carmi Times Jan. 22, 2013 1:00 pm Chicago * Jeffrey S. Edwards, 67, of Chicago and formerly of Carmi, died peacefully on January 18, 2013 in Chicago. He was the beloved son of the late Jesse and Mary Emily (nee Wallace) Edwards. Jeff served in the U.S Coast Guard. He received his Bachelor of Arts at Northeastern Illinois University, and later a Paralegal Certificate at Roosevelt University. His years of employment started in the SW gas fields. >From 1967 he lived in Chicago, working at a commercial photography studio, Jefferson State Bank, Steinberg-Baum Discount Store, and he served as Assistant Corporate Secretary for Chicago Northwestern Railroad. Later he became an independent licensed real estate broker and appraiser. As a condo owner, he was a member of the Admission/Sales and landscape Committees. He is survived by his longtime (45 years) friend and companion, John Constant. He is also survived by his loving brother John "Jay" Edwards and his wife Pat; nephew Jay D. Edwards and his wife Nancy and their sons Dylan and James; and his many aunts and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado. Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the funeral home. * OBITUARY: Ronald Dean "Bud" Welch * The Carmi Times - Carmi, IL Published in Carmi Times Jan. 24, 2013 5:53 pm Carmi * Ronald Dean " Bud" Welch, age 76, of Carmi, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at Marion VA Medical Center. He was born May 16, 1936 in Carmi, the son of Don E. and Mary Virginia (Sheppard) Welch. Bud farmed with his family during his youth. He then worked at Welch's Sales and service for several years. Bud operated Coast To Coast Hardware in McLeansboro. He later concentrated his efforts on his produce business at Oak Street Corner. He was an Army Veteran. He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ronald Darren and Stacy Welch of Maunie, and Scott Welch of McLeansboro; three brothers and one sister-in-law, Don R. Welch, Charles M. "Chod" and Sue Welch, and Art Welch; nine grandchildren, Krista, Tyler, Erin, Brooklyn, Caitlynn, Mary, Cara, Darilyn and Westyn; a great-grandson, and a great-granddaughter on the way; and many nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Rita Pfiester. A graveside funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, January 26, 2013 at White County Memorial Garden. Pastor Larry Woodrow will officiate. Military burial rites will be performed by the American Legion and VFW Posts of Carmi. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. She lived in St Charles County, Mo. her entire life. She was a licensed social worker and graduated from Washington University with a master's degree in social work in 2001. She is survived by her husband, Aric Schwartz of Wentzville; two sons, Zachary Will of St. Charles. Mo. and Aiden Schwartz of O'Fallon, Mo.; her mother Rita Sturm Pawly of O'Fallon, Mo. and her father Ken Fricke of Belle, Mo.; one sister and brother; her grandfather, Bernard R. Sturm of Grayville, and a special friend, Amanda Robertson. Eden Gooding "Pat" Nelson, 78, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2013, at his home in Carmi. Born January 25, 1934 in Wright City, Tx., Pat was the son of the late David Roebuck and Tessie Evalene (Thomas) Nelson, and the grandson of Choctaw original enrollees Eden Gooding and Laura (Ashford) Nelson. He lived a rich, full life, loved dearly by his wife of 53 years, Betty (Fobar) Nelson, and their children Lea Ann Richmond, Jeff Nelson and Steve Nelson. A son of the Great Generation, Pat was a Christian, a man devoted to family, a Korean War veteran, an entrepreneur, and a Good Samaritan. With deeply spiritual commitment to Christ and a legacy of Christian service that began with his grandfather, Eden Gooding Nelson, Pastor of Antlers Circuit of Choctaw-Chickasaw District, Pat served his Lord as Deacon, Sunday school teacher, and began the first bus ministry in Carmi, bringing children and young adults to church who might never have otherwise been able to attend. And, like his mother, Tessie Nelson, he began each day reading the Bible, having read it, in its entirety, 16 times in the past 23 years. Pat raised strong children knowing they were loved, that family would always endure as they were together. He was an entrepreneur, a risk-taker with considerable initiative who became a well-known oilman throughout the Midwest. He established The Nelson Company, which grew to include a Pipe Division, Well Plugging Division, Nelson Midwest Contractors, and oil producing entities consisting of Nelson Enterprises, Eden Petroleum and Nelson Development Corporation. Honest, responsible, generous, ethical, hardworking, values of the Great Generation, values Pat passed to a new generation. Pat is survived by sisters, June Walker and Joe Ann Beeson; brothers, Elwood Nelson and Robert Nelson; sister-in-law Grace Nelson; grandchildren Niki Ballard, Lauren Nelson, Kady Nelson, Evan Nelson, Bethany Nelson, Brandon Farr, Ryan Farr and Kara Engle; great-grandchildren, Ava Ballard, Liam Skelly, Aiden Dugger and Violet Sorg; and 11 nieces and nephews. Pat was preceded in death by his brother, David Nelson, and nephew, Tom Nelson. Visitation and funeral are Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi. Price, 37, Edwardsville, formerly of Oblong, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2013, near Grayville. Born in Olney on June 19, 1975, he was the son of Allen Ray Price and Paula Jane Puntney. Jamie was employed as a property manager and landscaper for Daybreak Landscaping in Edwardsville and also purchased property to fix up to resell with Price Construction, Price Properties LLC and M-P-30 Properties LLC. He also worked as grounds manager for the Edwardsville School system for seven years and was a young entrepreneur. Jamie was a member of 22 Motor Sports Racing Team. He drove Big 10 officials to games and was the personal driver for Ed Hightowner. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his nine-year-old daughter Regan; she was the absolute light of his life. He also loved spending time with Regan's siblings, Parker Synders, four months, Paige Synders, three years and twin brothers, Dylan and Clayton Synders, nine years. Jamie is survived by his father, Allen Price and Mary Beth Price of Oblong; his mother, Paula Puntney-Price of Carmi; a daughter, Regan Mallory Price of Edwardsville; a sister and brother-in-law, Martha Price-Darr and Matthew Darr of Edwardsville; grandmother Reva Price of Crossville; his girlfriend, Maureen "Mo" Posey of Edwardsville; aunt, Mary Craig Puntney-Lowry of St. Louis, Mo.; uncle, Dan and Carolyn Price of Norris City; and two cousins Derek Price of Norris City and Kimberly Price of Los Angeles, Calif. and former wife, Shanel Synders. Jamie was preceded in death by his grandfather, James Price and grandparents, Paul and Patricia Puntney. OBITUARY: Beth Lodene (Dagley) Logan * The Carmi Times - Carmi, IL Published in Carmi Times Jan. 21, 2013 7:56 am Canton, Ohio * * Beth Lodene (Dagley) Logan, 89, of Canton, Ohio and formerly of Barrington, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2013 in Canton, Ohio. She was born October 24, 1923 in White County, the daughter of William Baily and Rachel Elizabeth (Masser) Dagley. Beth attended Union Ridge School and graduated from Carmi High School. She married Ernest Wayne Logan, also from the Union Ridge area on April 8, 1943 in Morganfield, Ky. He preceded her in death on December 31, 2010. After Wayne returned from serving in the Navy, the couple settled in Barrington. They had two children Marita and Rex. Beth worked about 30 years for Jewel Tea Company in the data entry department for the home shopping department. She enjoyed working, baking goodies, gathering with friends from her J.O.Y. Sunday School class at Salem United Methodist Church, shopping and traveling with Wayne, her sister and brother-in-law. In 1999, Beth and Wayne moved to Uniontown, Ohio to be near their daughter. They lived in a condominium for several years. In 2007, they relocated to an assisted living facility called the Emeritus of Canton. Beth is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marita and Mark Kush of Uniontown, Ohio; a sister, Linda Koe Cantrell and husband Dale of Canyon Lake, Tx.; four grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, Lara Burmeister and husband Daniel and their sons Kip and Kai of Hilliard, Ohio, Dina Beachy and husband Kevin and their sons Blake, Trenton, Grant, Chaney, Cameron, Reid, Lance and Tanner of Hartville, Ohio, Amber Brasill and husband Daniel and their daughters, Paris and Kinslee of North Canton, Ohio and Brett Kush and wife Kim (Schrock) and their daughters Delaney, Emmerson and Maylee of Canton, Ohio. She was preceded in death a son, Rex Logan and two brothers, Charles Keith and Joe Bailey Dagley. She married my great great grandpa William McCarty who had lived in IL also. My great grandpa Israel Nicholas McCarty says he was born in McLeansboro, Il even though the 1860 Census he was born in Arkansas. His parents were dead by 1860. Israel moved to Franklin County, Il, and raised his family there. He eventually moved to Alexander Co., IL where he died. She was born November 11, 1951, in Evansville, Ind., the daughter of Charles and Wanda (Clark) McClure. Brenda was a nurse and enjoyed reading and genealogy. Survivors include her father, Charles McClure of Jacksonville, Tx.; sisters Catherine (Bill) Owen of Carmi, Doris Swan of New Bedford, Mass., Ellen (Bryan) Hayward of Indianapolis, Ind.; and an aunt LaDonna McClure of Fairfield. She is preceded in death by her mother Wanda Slaughter; step-mother Helen McClure; step-father Oscar James "Coonie" Slaughter; and sister Audrey Maloy. Brenda's remains were cremated and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi is in charge of arrangements and will accept memorials in Brenda's memory to the Carmi Public Library or Willard Library. Kallenbach, 88, of Carmi, died Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. She was born July 1, 1924, in Enfield, the daughter of William and Cora (McKenzie) Draper. She was married to Glenn Kallenbach and he survives. Gloria was a member of First Christian Church in Carmi and a graduate of Alton-Wood River High School. Her working career included serving as a cook at Brownsville School and later as secretary and administrator for the Doctors Clinic in Carmi. In her leisure time she enjoyed quilting. Survivors include her husband Glenn Kallenbach of Carmi; son Gary Kallenbach and his wife Dorothy of Olney; brothers Carl Draper of Wood River, and Paul Draper and his wife Armenda of Alton; sister-in-law Marynell Draper of Hartford; grandchildren and their spouses Tonya and Randall Mowrer, Kenna and Richard Lee, Amy and Jon Roeder, and Jason and Lindsey Berger; and 13 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter Karen Sue Berger; son Dale Kallenbach; and brothers Kenneth Draper and Robert Draper. Visitation and funeral are Saturday, January 19, at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi. Visitation is at 9 a.m. and the funeral is at 11 a.m. Burial will be in White County Memorial Garden near Carmi. * SERVICES: Margaret Rose White * The Carmi Times - Carmi, IL Published in Carmi Times Jan. 16, 2013 1:37 pm Carmi * Funeral services for Margaret Rose White were held at 12 p.m. Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi. President Orson Kramer of the Eldorado branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints presided and conducted the service. Ann Fowler provided the prelude music and President Kramer provided the opening remarks. Paula Markham was the soloist and sang, "Familes Can Be Together Forever." Tori Harrelson provided the opening prayer. Carol Dorris, David Johnson and Kenneth Harrelson were speakers. The congregation sang "God Be With You Til We Meet Again." David R. Johnson served as the chorister. Harriet Hayes provided the benediction. Pallbearers were Mick Place, Kenneth Harrelson, Shiloh Stone, Gus Zertuche, Gabriel Zertuche and Antonio Zertuche. Interment followed at White County Memorial Garden near Carmi. Mick Place provided the dedication of grave.
