Thanks for your response, Cindy! Although we know Peter Shull lived in Burnt Prairie with one of his daughters, (Elizabeth "Betsy" Shull Hunsinger, wife of Jacob Hunsinger; or Katherine Shull Mathews Bottoms, wife 1st of Jacob Mathews & wife 2nd of William Bottoms), there has been speculation about his place of burial. Here are some sources for anyone interested: Aug. 1852, Certificate of Pension issued to Anna Dorthea Shull, widow of Pvt. Peter Shull, to commence 2 Jan. 1849. See 29 June 1852 Ohio County, Kentucky statement that evidence was presented to the Judge that Peter Shull, a Revolutionary Pensioner on the Illinois Roll, died in 1834, leaving Anna Dorotha Shull his widow until the 2nd day of January 1849 when she died in this County leaving Peter Shull and Samuel Shull of Ohio County, Ky. and Mrs. Elizabeth Huntsinger and Mrs. Katharine Bottoms of White County, Illinois the surviving children, with Mary M. Huntsucker who has since died leaving heirs. One cousin writes: "A great-granddaugher said Peter became ill and wanted to return to Ky. for his last days and burial, and that the family started. One story said there was high water; another said he died at Henderson, Ky., and the family returned with him to White County, Ill." Irene and Lucille Funkhouser wrote: "Peter Scholl served as a private in the Revolutionary Army in 1777-78 under Capt. Frederick Cutts and Gen. Potter; also two months guarding prisoners at York. After the war he lived for three or four years in York County, Pennsylvania, probably in Germany Township. Then he lived two and 1/2 years at Fort Cumberland, Maryland; then for seven years in Fayette County, Pennsylvania where he was a householder in the 1790 census; then he went down the Ohio River from Pittsburgh to Green River, Kentucky, up that stream to Stum's Landing, where he settled and lived 35 years, then he lived a short while in White County, Illinois, where he was pensioned in 1833. His pension # is 11363. Esther Carter Harris says he has a crescent moon shaped marker placed in the Carmi, Illinois cemetery by the DAR (the old cemetery). He also has his name placed on the White County Veteran's Memorial in the Old City Park on Main Street near the courthouse in Carmi. On Memorial Day a flag has always been placed in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Burnt Prairie, by a veteran in his honor with the understanding that Peter Scholl is buried in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near his daughter, Elizabeth Scholl Hunsinger. " If anyone else is working on this family, would love to hear from you. I am not related to this line, but the Illinois State Archives Marriage Index also listed one of my ancestor's names incorrectly on their online site. When I e-mailed them a scan of the actual marriage record, they correct the spelling of the name within 2 days. If you do the same, they will be delighted to quickly make the correction with an explanation that the site was created by volunteer help. You can find the e-mail address to mail the webmaster on the Illinois State Archives site. Debbie McArdle

If you want the 1986 reading--much better--I would send $10 for copies. If you want a 2001 or 2002 reading you can wait until the new book is published--I know I am holding them up with Kitty Sweetin, since I taped myself walking the cemetery but have no skill for transcribing myself. You can buy a book with the old listings for many county cemeteries at www.rootsweb.com/~ilwcohs.

I am from his second marriage to Samantha "Annie" Riley Leonard Odam in 1882. Do you have a Sena or Clementine-b1836, or her father Robert, to date?

Surnames: Peacock, Spencer, Hafford, Arforth, Alford Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Yh.2ADE/1925.1 Message Board Post: James E. Peacock was born January 15, 1815 in Lincolshire. That is the recording made in family records by descendants. James E. Peacock married after his first wife, Alice Clifton, passed in 1890. In 1892 at the age of almost 78 he took a bride of the age of 24. In the recording of this marriage his father was given as Peacock and his mother as ANA HAFFORD. There is a recording of a christening for James Peacock on January 20 1815, Sutterton, Lincoln, England. His parents are given as James Peacock and ANNE ? In following up the marriage records for his parents, the marriage record shows that James Peacock married ANN ARFORTH on July 18, 1808 in Quadring, Lincoln, England. I think it is possible that the Hafford and Arforth may be one and the same...the name most likely recorded correctly in England. The english accent of the era often silenced an H and gave the vowel A an 'aw' sounding. My father once told me that we were distantly related to Mr. ALFORD near Simpson Switch. I have even given the name Alford some credibility as being Ann's last name...though it is not recorded as such. Also, I am now attempting to determin if James had children by the second marriage to Mrs. Ida May Brewer. Her maiden name had been Aiken; the d/o Robert Aiken and Nelly Dickey.

Charles was the son of Charles Hickling and an unkown Peckcock, which might be a misspelling for Peacock. Charles married Annie J. Shaw, the daughter of a Webber Shaw and an unknown Hubbard. They were married on October 31, or November 1, 1888. I believe there were Shaws and Hicklings at some point in time in the Phillipstown and Crossville area...which is where the Peacocks initially settled. Did Charles and Annie have descendants? Where did they reside? Who were their children? Did Charles Hickling, Sr. and his wife, have children other than Charles, Jr.? Was there ever a Peckcock family in White County? One you might contact is Matthew_S._Stewart@HUD.GOV . I don't have emails for the others who came, at least the males. The historical society has a picture of William taken before his 1856 and the silver topped cane shown in the photograph, as well as owning the Robinson-Stewart home. There are also descendents in KY, and another grave marking was done there. On ancestry there are some fairly good listings for the family and some that seem incorrect.
