Already been there done that. I've applied for two certificates. I applied once before about a year ago. It wasn't on line to view, I just mailed away for information and got it. My problem, I have someone who I KNOW died 3-18-1925 at his home in the Tri State Tornado which came through Enfield (White Co.) It was written up in the Carmi- Tribune Newspaper. The Statewide Death Index has nothing on this person. Hmmm. Janean
Carolyn, I sent for a death certificate and received it within about 4 weeks. Good luck. Norm, I'd try to order them again. I looked up the dates in my notes and I ordered them on May 16th and got them last Friday. Sharon
<PRE>When did they go online? I've received death certificates and have applied for more. It takes about 6-12 weeks I believe.
I don't know if you received an answer , but by going to ; http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/databases.html you can search for anyone who may have had a death certificate issued in the state of Illinois between 1916 and 1950. From there you can order two at a time, waiting for those to arrive before ordering more. I think this site was placed on-line in either April or May 2002. Prior to this site you could order death cert., but I think you needed an approximate death date and it didn't take as long, but since this new site started up I think they have had more requests than they thought , so it does seem to be taking longer. At least some are starting to get the earlier orders , so now we just sit and be patient. Hope this helps, Carolyn Campbell White -----Original Message----- From: JRay38s@aol.com [mailto:JRay38s@aol.com] Sent: Monday, September 09, 2002 11:31 AM To: ILWHITE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ILWHITE] IL Death Certificates <PRE>When did they go online? <PRE>did the L&N run through Mt. Vernon IL?
Carolyn, I have been waiting 9 months and have given up on them. Norm
Good memory Fred. I played on all those railroads bu once their tracks were out of downtown I didn't know which was which. Even the tracks are gone now? I notice the L&N station near the library has been torn down. I almost went to work there. My, how my life would have been changed if I had done that and stayed there. Ernie Heltsley
Carolyn, I requested them as soon as I knew they were online. I got them last Friday. Sharon
I sent off for a death certificate from the IL Death Index (1916-1950). I received my copy of the certificate Friday and I would have to say that it probably took between 6-8 weeks. I sent for two death certificates the first week they were on line and have not received them as yet. Jeanette O'Boyle
I think the fourth one was the B&O. It and the I.C . came in on the west side of Eldorado. The New York central was on the east side of eldorado and the L&N was just a block west of the high school. Hi All, Thanks for all the replies. At least I don't feel like mine got lost and with at least Sharon getting the ones she requested just recently, maybe this is a sign they will be showing up soon !! I sent for two certificates about the end of May and have not received them as of yet. I've heard to expect maybe a 4 or 5 month wait. That was the train that was referred to in the Arlo Guthrie song. I think that at the time that was the old Illinois Central. The L & N stopped in Maunie, Carmi, Enfield, Thackeray, McLeansboro. Carol Janes skala wrote:I too would like to see the old railroad station picture. When I was a child my mother and I would board a train in Kankakee and ride it to Benton to see my grandparents in McLeansboro. The name of the train was The City of New Orleans but I'm not sure which railroad line it was. I often wondered if that was the same train that was referenced in the Arlo Guthrie song years later that started "Riding on the City of New Orleans........". ----- Original Message ----- From: "Anna Pinter" To: Sent: Sunday, September 08, 2002 6:37 PM Subject: Re: [ILWHITE] Re: Millers in White County to Muhlenberg > I would like to see a photo of the old railroad station. Right, the Illinois Central was the "City of New Orleans" from Chicago but as I understand it went through Carbondale and not Benton, West Frankfort. It was the C&EI Railroad that went from Chicago through Benton, West Frankfort etc. I road the latter a couple of times to Chicago and return in 1948 but was never on the Illinois Central. They may have shared ltracks north of Champaign. I was too young to remember what railroads were farther east in Eldorado, Carmi, Harrisburg. I believe Eldorado had four, IC, New York Central, L&N and one other. It was the mines that attracted them. I'd love to hear a more accurate version. Ernie
Okay, Folks, you are forcing me to dig out boxes and boxes. The big problem is that I don't have a scanner, so this might take a while.
