    2. Jodie, Your E-mail asking of the qualifications and if the White County, Illinois genealogists are certified, makes me think you are very new to this list. Welcome. I have been using the services of the White County, Illinois researches for about 12 years. They have found the best kept secrets in my families, the non reported dead, early divorces, the children and marriages lost between census, from 1810. I am so pleased with each item they uncover. They have never let me down. I am on the West coast. I don't travel to Illinois as often as I would like. The going rate to pay NGS certified genealogists is now $80.00 an hour, 10 hours upfront, plus copies and mileage. I only needed a certified genealogist in a court case, and in my proving my Thomas Jefferson line and link to Matoaka. Jodie, do you only use certified genealogists? I am glad if you can afford them. Most of us cannot. Good Luck to you, and Happy Holidays. Kathleen

    3. Listers, I occasionally run a Carmi search on ebay and found a copy of the 1966 Carmi/White County history selling for $30, unfortunately with a bidder willing to pay that price. If you go the historical society website at www.rootsweb.com/~ilwcohs you can see we still have unused copies available for $5. Watch before bidding, Cindy

    2. There are many counties that have both a Historical Society and a Genealogical Society. They seem to do quite well together. I personally have had the pleasure of genealogical assistance from two or more of the ladies listed with the new society. I do not know if they are certified or not. If they are not "certified" they are truly experienced in White County records. I have not thanked them enough for the efforts and time they have provided me. No need to be upset about anything, no one is being pressured to do anything they don't want to. Be happy that whatever direction they are going, they want to help. For what it's worth.......Cathy Hill

    3. In the message below, the new society that will concentrate on Genealogy is said to have "actual Genealogists at the helm." I gather that means they are certified. Is that correct? If not, what are their qualifications. That is, what makes them "actual genealogists." 3. Hi Marion - Unfortunately, there seems to be a vast difference in goals and philosophy between the Historical Society and the new Genealogy Society founders. Most responses have been extremely favorable to having a separate Society that concentrates only on Genealogy, with actual Genealogists at the helm. We welcome and appreciate your input, though! Happy Holidays. Pat

    1. [ILWHITE] How exciting!!
    2. Jonelle Ellis Russell
    3. Pat Davis and associates are once again opening new avenues of research for those of us doing research in White County. An organized genealogical society is a great asset to current and future researchers. I am very greatful to the genealogical societies who have collected and published data from the local records, published it in their newsletters, and provided information to be publish in books and on the internet. Their community spirit is reflected in those publications and thier collective efforts to preserve the identities and the facts and the spirit of those families who built a commuity in publicatons is a tribute to the past and a legacy for the future. I am greatful for all the information and personal contacts I have found with my computer, but I still find curling up with a book in my lap comforting. I am very excited to learn that there another resource for White county research will soon be availabl.e I am looking forward to the arrival of the first issue of "Roots and Branches" in my mailbox. Are you related to Goodman, Kisner, Musgrove, Collard, Leathers, Hart, Becker in that area? I would greatly appreciate seeing the pictures - perhaps some of them are of my family - who knows. 3. I think it is a big mistake to start this new society when you have a great one already, your just going to confuse people if they are anything like me. I already find that with alot of the other genealogy websites. I wind up getting frustrated and eventually not bothering at all. You may think you have good intentions but I don't. I am hoping you may be able to help me. I have been looking for my gg-grandparents graves. I finally found out they were buried at the Old Prairie Cemetary in White Co. Their names were James Darrell Bryant (died Oct.10, 1895) and Mary Reagan Bryant (died Aug. 31, 1869). James Bryants parents are buried there also. There names were Daniel B. Bryant (died Apr. 29, 1829) and Elizabeth Newell Bryant (Aug. 27, 1870). If you know where this cemetary is and ever come across their graves, would you please e-mail some photo's to me. I wish you luck on your search, and I hope you can help me with mine. Thank You, Mary

    1. [ILWHITE] New Genealogy Society!
    2. Pat Davis
    3. Hi all - As of today, there's a new group in town: the GENEALOGY SOCIETY OF WHITE COUNTY ILLINOIS. The Society will be mainly newsletter-oriented, with an 8 to 16-page newsletter sent bi-monthly, starting in February 2003. We will also be doing research for a fee, and publishing White County Genealogy books. The initial directors are myself, Tullyne Oliver, Nancy Hays, Anna Jones, Charlene Shields, Janet Armstrong, and Barbara Bradley. I've mailed out some "Invitations to Join" letters today, using a mailing list gleaned largely from those who have bought my books, in addition to others who have expressed an interest in having a separate Genealogy Society. If you're interested in joining, or just finding out more, contact me privately, and I'll email you a pdf (attachment) of the "Invitation", which you can print out, or just read. We'll be publishing queries in the Newsletter ("Roots & Branches"), so whether you join or not, you're invited to submit your queries for the first issue. You can submit these to me by email if you wish, but be sure to include your mailing address for responses, as well as your email address. Our Mail address is: Genealogy Society of White Co. IL, PO Box 142, Carmi, IL 62821. Happy Holidays to all, and to all a good night! Pat Davis patdavis@midwest.net
