    3. I would really be appreciative if someone with the White County Cemetery Book# 1 could possibly check for some names for me. The names are: John H. Coale George W. Hardy A. O. Rice I think the O stands for Orville Abner Rice I checked the census yesterday and had no luck and yet I know they lived there at some point in their life. If the names are there then I will purchase the book. I do have Book #2. Thank you so much....Pat

    1. [ILWHITE] SEARCHING
    2. This is a general query, sent to several, as I am hoping maybe one can help me find a descendant of Helen Freehrer who married John M Simpson. Helen is the daughter of Nancy Cross and Luke Jackson Bozeman, and the sister of my great grandmother Caroline Bozeman who married Yearby Land in the 1860's in White Co. IL. A recent publicized Bozeman genealogy report states that Caroline died and was buried in 1917 in Faith, SD. I believe it was Helen or a descendant of hers who gave information for this Bozeman record as I find a statement in a Cross record that says "has furnished much of the information of the Cross family and particularly on the Nancy Cross and Luke Bozeman family". I am trying to find someone who could have known this information in the 1930's. My immediate connections have not proven this. This is confusing, but if anyone can help I would appreciate knowing who to contact. Thank you for giving this consideration. Marian Land Ferguson New Mexico

    3. Yes, I talked to Janet a LONG time ago when I first started working on my family. She has no known connection and since I haven't found more we would still be at the same crossroad. It's just so hard for me to believe that there isn't some kind of a connection. Skiles is not Smith or Jones. And to have two separate non-connected families by the same name in the same place is unlikely. There is always that one missing person to connect a line isn't there? I should probably contact Janet again just to say hi and check in. 3. Steve, Out of all of the Miller family in Enfield, I have a lot on the lines from Robert "Robin" Miller and Mary Mays, of which both Petilla Miller and Henry Albert "Albert" Miller were children. However, I don't have a lot on Albert, and only have two children for he and Julia, a William L. Miller and an Estell Miller. It is likely that the family has so many branches that some of them are getting lost. My source for this family is also Virgil Bolerjack, who submitted info to the genealogy library. I have not find White County marriages or Enfield cemetery burials for any of these folks. 3. Betty, I have Martin as the son of Petilla W. Miller and Susan Jane Land, of Enfield. In the info I got from Virgil Bolerjack, who is related into this family, he had Martin Miller, who died Oct 4 1930 in Mt. Vernon IL as married to Flora Thomas, rather than Rister. She was probably married again before or after. I have Bertha's marriage to the Woodall but not a second time. Here's a list of children: Descendants of Martin MILLER - 19 Jan 2003 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FIRST GENERATION 1. Martin MILLER1,2 was born on September 12, 1867. He died on October 4, 1930 in Mt. Vernon, Jefferson Co, IL. He was married to Flora THOMAS. Perry MILLER2. +9 viii. Gertrude MILLER. SECOND GENERATION 5. Flossie MILLER2. She was married to ? CREEK. 6. Grace MILLER. She was married to ? MILLER. 7. Bertha MILLER2. She was married to ? 3. Persoally, for many years. Left Eldorado when in the 7th grade. Father was Earl C. Johnson, for many years a butcher at Burnett's. We moved to Fairfield and then when Dad died in 1969, then living south of Rockford, Mom moved back and stayed there until about 1988 when she move in with us in Chicago. She lived in the little white house on the corner west of Pearce Hospital. She died in 1989 and we brought her back for burial at Linwood, along side Dad. We get down once in awhile. Ruth's stepmother is in the nursing home in Carmi so I come on down a look around sometimes. I remember your name but no memory of any of your family. Thanks for your response. 3. I don't know. I only have one Mary Skiles and that was my great aunt and Downs was not her married name. I am sure I have a lot of missing Skiles connections. My direct line is: George Hill Skiles b. 1809 (prob. Ky) m. 1826 to Catharine Unknown. George died c.1860/70 and Catharine 1870/80 in White Co. Children were Alex; James; Isaac James (my line); John W. and Sarah Skiles. James m. Harriet Watkins; Children Cyrus and Eliza Isaac James m. Sarah Jane Smith 1867 and had Joseph Ottis (my g-grandfather) who m. Flora C. Wilson. They also had Cora E. (Herman Klein); Ada C.; Millard C. and Edith (Victor Mitchell. Sarah Skiles m. Peter Hoffner. This is just a sample of the Skiles line. Interestingly though, Isaac's wife Sarah Jane Smith has a Skiles connection too, but can't seem to match the two families.
