    1. [ILWHITE] Mitchell---Land
    2. Going through old mail. Don't know how I accumulate so much. Anyway wondered if you ever put together your wife's info on the Land and Mitchell family? Recently did go through my data and find that I have Julie Mitchell b. 1860 and two sisters, Lucinda and Catherine. Think the William you mentioned is Julia's father or grandfather. Must be grandfather as Julie's mother was Mary Melvina wasn't it? All connected to Jasper Co., IL. Lots of info came in from an assortment of Cummins researchers and was able to put together quite a chart with John Taylor Land and Nancy Ellis. if you are still interested would like to hear more about this branch if you have it. Marian Land Ferguson PS---tried to send this to WILLEB7@aol.com but it wouldn't go so evidently no longer working. Does any one know of the Mary Melvina land who married Edwin Francis Mitchell? Think connected to the Jasper Co., Land, Cummins and Ellis families. So will try this route.

    3. FYI; no relation. There are two Nicholas (or Nich) Zopfs in the 1880 census (at familysearch.org). One is in Evansville, IN and one is in Madison Co., IL (see notes below). Neither has a wife named Malinda or Elizabeth. One is md. to a Frances, and the other to a Catherin. A second wife, perhaps? Both men were b. in Germany. No Nich, Nick, or Nicholas Zopf or Zoph in the 1870 or 1910 census index. Could he have used another first name (Adam, George, Peter, Philip, Wm. are some Zopfs listed.) Could these Madison Co. IL references be to your Nicholas Zopf, or [probably] to the other one? -------------- Norton, William T., Centennial history of Madison County, Illinois, and its people : 1812 to 1912 Evansville, Ind.: Unigraphic, 1970 States that Nicholas Zopf opened a tavern in the little crossroads town of St. Morgan, Madison Co., IL, apparently ca mid-1800s. -------------- Anonymous History of Madison County, Illinois. Illustrated : with biographical sketches of many prominent men and pioneers. Edwardsville, Ill.: W.R. Brink & Co., 1882 States that the tavern of Nicholas Zopf, "old democratic wheelhorse of his vicinity", is the center of the little village of St. Morgan. It is at the site of the former post office. Sounds like it was still operating at the time of writing in 1882, since the author refers to both tavern and Kopf in the present tense. ---------------- --- tommy zoph <tzoph@yahoo.com> wrote: > my name is George T. 3. Susannah MATTHEWS / MATHEWS was born about 1835 in Burnt Prairie, Illinois. She married James Henry LEE on 3 February 1850, Burnt Prairie, White County, Illinois. For 25 years I have been trying to prove she is the daughter of Katherine SHULL and Jacob MATTHEWS, but I have never been able to find proof. I have plenty of information on Katherine SHULL and her sister, Elizabeth "Betsy" SHULL who married Jacob HUNSINGER, and their parents. Has anyone ever seen any proof that Susannah Matthews is the daughter of Katherine SHULL or the niece of Betsy SHULL HUNSINGER? Is the Priscilla MATTHEWS who married Reese DANIEL 23 Feb. 1846 White County, Illinois, the sister of Susannah MATTHEWS? Thanks, in advance, for any clues anyone can provide. Debbie Ward McArdle

    1. [ILWHITE] Mcghee
    2. Hi, I am researching in White County for a James Orville McGhee born January 21, 1880 in Norris City Illinois. I have his death certificate from Franklin County Illinois, that states his birth date and place of birth, it also lists his mothers name as Amanda (maiden name unknown) also born in White County Illinois, father is unknown. I have looked in the 1880 and 1900 census indexes for this family but have not found them yet, I was looking in some of the mailing list archives and seen many Mcghee researchers, just wondering if anyone has information about James or Amanda I did find James married to Telitha (Felitha) Messer in the 1910 census in Union County Illinois, not sure where they got married. Thank you Jean Rowcliffe

    3. JOAN, A photocopy of the book you seek is in the Mary Smith Fay Genealogy Library at Carmi, White Co. IL. I copied this book and spiral bound it from an original a few years ago. The original was owned by two sisters, both of whom are deceased now. I don't know who has possession at this time. You can contact the MSF Library at P O Box 121, Carmi, 62821, phone 618-382-8425, and ask them to copy it for you. I know it is still there, in the church section, I think.
