    3. Thanks. I have not done much on that line of the family. I was given a short ancestry from White Co. on those Rice's. I haven't yet dove into it. I've been concentrating my efforts on my Wilson line. Thanks. 2. Janean, Yes, I know those Rices, but they are not of my group; if so, it was probably way back there in England or Wales. They always seemed to turn up in some of the same places as my Rices, and I have chuckled at times thinking they might have thought they were related to each other. My Rices came from England (of Welsh descent) in 1638, and settled in Massachusetts. The first I know of your Rices was is Virginia. I think one or two of that group (Jonathan, for one) lived in Maury Co., TN, and some might have lived in Davidson Co. Then your group went to western Kentucky before going to Illinois. Some of yours lived very, very close to mine in White Co. I believe some mingled in Saline or Gallatin - don't remember which. If you write Christine Rice, 400 Emerald Lane, Carbondale, IL. I do not know for sure she still lives there as I haven't corresponded with her for a number of years. You might check out the address in the net white pages. I also do not know how old she is. She may no longer do anything in genealogy. Let me know if she is not available to help you, and I will see what I can find to help you. Everything I have came from her, and I know she has much more than I have. Shirley Malone Fritsche

    2. just finished checking the Roll call info from Bee Bop and so wanted to ask again if any one else can identify this Eveleth that she has. Feel because the name is so uncommon that Sylvester and family of White Co must be related to Ruth Henrietta Eveleth of Mass. who married Ebenzer Rice---family then in TN and then some on to IL. And did fine connections to some of the Rice family too. Feel everyone in White Co are related...what fun. Marian Land Ferguson

    3. FYI (no relation): I found the following books on Heritage Quest with references to the name Eveleth. Sylvester was a very popular name among them, possibly the founder of the family in America. ----------------------- Jones, William Preble, Four Boston grandparents: Jones and Hill, Preble and Eveleth, and their ancestry. Somerville, Mass., 1930 Names author's maternal grandparents as Sarah Bartlett Eveleth, b May 29, 1817, and Nathaniel Coit Allen Preble, both of New Gloucester, ME (once part of MA). Names Sylvester Eveleth, first baker in Boston; Joseph Eveleth, the Centenarian; Nathaniel the New Gloucester pioneer; Perkins Eveleth (Sarah B.'s father), mentions a letter written by Chas. H. Eveleth in 1929, etc. The ame was once spelled Eveleigh and more anciently, Yeverleigh. ------------------------- Mears, Neal F. A history of the Heverly family : including the spellings Hever, Heverle, Heverley, Everle, Everley, Everleigh, Eveleigh, Evelegh, Eveley, Everly, and Eveleth. Chicago, Ill.: unknown, 1945 This book suggests other spellings of the name. Names Charles Nicholas Eveleigh and George Wyatt Eveleigh as in VA or possibly MD early on. Mentions record of Isaac Eveleth in SC in 1697/8 and names a Samuel or Samuel Henry Eveleigh, b ca 1745. A Charles Eveleigh is said to have participated in the rebellion against King Charles I. Also mentionsa Sylvester Eveleigh. ------------------------ Leonard, Clarence Ettienne, The Fulton-Hayden-Warner ancestry in America. New York: T.A. Wright, 1923 This one nams a Sylvester Eveleth and wife Susannah, son? Joseph, grandson? James, and a Sarah, b. 1765 in CT,and another Sarah b. 1732 in Iswich, MA, among others, including a Sylvester, b. England, d. 1689 in Gloucester, MA. ------------------------ This goes on for 267 (!) books, including one that mentions a town named Eveleth, MN. --- Onefergy@aol.com wrote: > just finished checking the Roll call info from > Bee Bop and so wanted to ask > again if any one else can identify this Eveleth > that she has. 3. My great-great grandmother was Callia T. Rice b.1810 Thompson Co. Ky. Married Rawleigh Chinn Wilson of Loudoun Co. Va. Callia's parents were James Harvey Rice and Ann I. (unknown) Rice. James Harvey died in Mercer Co. Ky, but his wife, Ann must have come to White co to be with her daughter Callia and her husband Rawleigh and/or other siblings of Callia. Callia d. 1873 in Carmi, White Co. It is thought that she is named for the Rev. David Rice's daughter Challia Rice Trotter who married John Trotter. Any one know these names? 3. Please add my Great Grandmothers Obit to your web site. Her daughter, Alpha Jane Van Bibber was my grandmother. This appeared in The Norris City News dated October 18, 1945. "Aunt Jane" Edwards Succumbs to Lengthy Illness "Aunt Jane" Edwards, 92 one of the oldest residents of Norris City passed away at six o'clock Wednesday morning at her home in this city. She had been confined to bed for the past few years and death is attributed to infirmities of age. Melissa Jane, daughter of James and Sarah Ann Buttrey born one of seven children, only one of whom she survives her. The only member of the Buttrey family now living is Mrs William (Mary G.) Forrester of Eldorado. The first marriage to John Forrester, who preceded her in death. She later married Leonard Edwards on April 1, 1875, she also died. "Aunt Jane" joined the Mt. Oval Cumberland Presbyterian church as soon as the building was completed, about 75 years ago, transferring her membership to the Norris City church about 30 years ago, when she and Mr. Edwards moved to Norris City. Four of her eight children survive. They are: Sarah Catlin. who lived with her mother and cared for her for the past several years; Mrs Alpha Van Biber (Van Bibber), who lives in California; Will Forrester of Oregon, and Charles Forrester of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, who is bed fast. At press time funeral arrangements were not completed. The Turner Funeral Home is preparing the body for burial.

    3. David, I would like to correct you on your data; I am a descendant from Aquilla Greer, born 1744 and married to Elizabeth Bandy, daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Bandy of Franklin County, Virginia. This Aquilla Greer, Jr. died young and left 8 children. My William Greer was the eldest child of this Aquilla, Jr and Elizabeth Bandy. Asa Greer was a son also; he married Rebecca Neighbors in Franklin County, Va. Also Aquilla Greer, the third who married Elizabeth Smith and lived in Gallatin County, Illinois is a son. The Aquilla Greer who married Elizabeth Welch in Wilson or Davidson County, Tenn, and two other women, was the son of Asa and Rebecca Neighbors. Two of his daughters married into the Quigley and Eubanks family-one named Martha Ann(Quigley)and one named Mary Elizabeth (Eubanks). I have sent many messages to the White County, Gallatin County and only once received an reply. I will be publishing my life time reserch on Aquilla Greer and Elizabeth Low and their descendants(He was the son of John Greer and Sarah Day of Baltimore County, Maryland and they had only JOhn who married Sarah Day. The first Aquilla Greer came from John and Sarah Day Greer. This is not to push my book--it may be private copies for some libraries and my Greer families only. I am editing now and real busy but if you need more info, I will be glad to send it. 3. Hello Carol and All, I too have heard this Marth Ann Eubanks story, and have spent a lot of time on this branch, complicated more by the errors in the 1860 census. Here is what I have. Aquilla Greer, Jr. (son of Asa Greer and Rebecca Neighbors) (Aquilla also grandson of Aquilla Greer Jr) married Elizabeth Welch, 21 March 1815 in Tennessee. Children, Mary Elizabeth (Polly), William, John, Martha Ann, George William. Mary Elizabeth married James "Bigfoot" Eubanks, Jr. - 03 March 1835 Martha Ann married Reuben W. Quigley - 27 March 1856 Mary Elizabeth and James Eubanks Jr. had at least 11 children. One was Nancy Jane Eubanks. Nancy married Reuben's brother - Philip Carroll Quigley Because Martha Ann Quigley was Aunt to Nancy Jane Eubanks, someone may have thought that Martha was a Eubanks, but Martha was Aunt on Nancy's mother's side. ASA GREER - named his son after his father Aquilla Greer, Jr. Aquilla Greer, Jr. born 1744, married to Mary Haynes son - Aquilla Greer, Sr. married Elizabeth Smith son - Asa Greer born 1772, married Rebecca Neighbors son of Asa - Aquilla Greer, Jr. born 1792, married Elizabeth Welch Reuben Walden Quigley - brother to my great grandfather. 1. RE: [ILWHITE] Joseph Carter-White Co., IL
    2. Michael Clemmons
    3. Bill Huckaby has been giving some very good thought about what happened to my Joseph Edgar Carter family. Quote: --------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- A Mrs. Elizabeth Carter married Berry Rose on February 9, 1879, in White Co., Illinois. The 1880 Census transcript shows Berry Rose and wife Elizabeth living in Mill Shoals Twp., White Co. In the household, there are three children of interest: Viola E. Carter, age 15, Joseph E. Carter age 12 and Mary T. Carter, age 9. This shows that Mrs. Elizabeth Carter is was the mother of Joseph E. (Edgar) Carter. This data is consistent with what we believe about Joseph E, Carter and would indicate that Mrs. Elizabeth Carter is likely to have been Elizabeth Musgrave, the wife of William Carter. This would also hint at the fact that it is likely that William Carter had died though it is possible that there was a divorce. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Does anyone have access to the marriage records that could give me more detail about the marriage of Mrs. Elizabeth CARTER and Berry ROSE? Also, if anyone does have access, I would also like the details of the marriage of Joseph Edgar Carter and Bales, Alice Elizabeth Marcus (MRS) Date is 11/15/1884. If not, I will have to send away for that information. Thank you everyone for all the help that you have given. Thanks, Mike Clemmons
