Hi, My name is JoAnn Russell Statom. I am researching my great great grandfather, Hiram A. Russell. He was in the 1850 White Co. IL census but in the 1860 census his wife is there Levina Ward Russell and all the children. We have never been able to figure out what happen to Hiram. Would you look at the mortality census of 1860 and see if he is listed? I would be happy to pay you. Could you give me an idea of the cost? Thank you, JoAnn Russell Statom
Pat and Pat: If you are going to be researching a Grayville person make sure you go to the Grayville public library, and you might also want to do some checking in Edwards and Wabash County, since Grayville is on the edge of the three counties. You can get their phone numbers at the county website, www.rootsweb.com/~ilwhite2 . The genealogy library in Carmi has a lot of information on White, as well as the surrounding counties, and surname files. It is only open to 4:30 pm, while the Carmi public library, which has some good books but not a lot of organization, is open to 8 pm Monday-Thursday, with earlier closing on Friday and Saturday. If you have any questions about what might and might not be available for checking someone born in 1843, please ask, to make your time in the county most useful. Dear MichelleMy g grandfather Israel Nicholas Mc Carty states in all his marriage records that he was b. in White Co., IL. I have never found anything on the web to link him to. He was the s/o William and Tabitha (Horn) Mc Carty. He was b. August 15, 1851. His childrens birth certificates and his death certificate state he was b. near Mc Leansboro in IL. I know this is in Hamilton Co. I have never found anything there either. The earliest I find him is in 1889 married to his 1st wife. They m. Jan 23, 1873. He was marr. 3 times all in Franklin Co., IL.. The last time was to my g grandmother in 1897. They lived there through the 1910 census. He died in Alexander Co., IL in 1918.Thanks for anything you can findLin Michelle Young <shell23@shawneelink.net> wrote:Hello all White County researchers; I am happy to announce that I am going to be working in the heart of White County and will be able to do research for people looking for long lost love ones at the courthouse. 1860 census, Carmi P.O., White Co., IL, Aug 14, 1860: ABBOTT, Austin W., 35, m, b IL, farmer Elizabeth 32, f, b IN Abbott children were Harriet 11, Eliza 10, Sarah 8, George 5, Mary 3, Julia 1; and there was a Noah M. Johnson 13; all b IL. I'm guessing that Noah might have been a younger brother or a nephew of Eliz. If you can find a Johnson family in 1850 with a 2-4 yr. old named Noah, you will probably have some of Elizabeth's family. Did Austin die in the Civil War? Eliz. was alone in Enfield Twp, White Co., in 1870 with Eliza, Sarah, George, Mary and Julia, and a 5-yr. old boy named John Rickets. But the only Austin Abbotts I could find who served in the war were in units from VT (one) or MI (two). You might be able to find some of the children as adults in the 1880 census at familysearch.org --- LR Miller <midkiffwv@yahoo.com> wrote: > I am searching for information on Austin W. > Abbott.
