    1. [ILWHITE] Wilsons of Illinois and Virginia
    2. Janean Ray
    3. I am looking for the following from Illinois and/or Virginia John M. Wilson b. 1811 near Bull Run Prince Wm. Co Mary E. Wilson sister Parents Jacob Wilson and Margaret King (mother nee Kearney related to Gen. Phil Kearney) Cousin to Jacob was Judge William Wilson b. 1794 in Loudoun Co. and became Illinois Supreme Court Justice Ruth Wilson Dillon that wrote the Chinn Book is the granddaughter of Harriet Lucy Wilson and Charles James Fox Wilson. Charles was the son of Judge William Wilson and Harriet was the daughter of John Stretchley Wilson son of John Wilson and Elizabeth Chinn. MY BRICK WALL In the Wilson Story also by Ruth Dillon about my brick wall John Wilson, it talks about a letter and "your Uncle Jacob Wilson" and also says there was a Jacob Wilson in early Carmi that married a King but no relationship was established as of then. One of Judge Wilson's boys wrote to his mother about "Cousin Lucy Crebs" This Lucy Crebs is the daughter of John Wilson my brick wall. I believe John and Jacob Wilson are brothers and the father would be William Wilson. There is a mention that there might be an Uncle Silas but don't know if that is a Wilson or not. I believe they had a brother William. So Judge William Wilson is their nephew. I think that could be brother William's son. Whoever his father was he died when Jg. William was young leaving mom and another brother. He was b. 1794 in Loudoun Co. It is said the Jacob Wilson's family came from Pennsylvania. Jacob lived in PW Co. and that is where John was born. Then they moved to Jefferson Co. Va. (W.Va) and onward to White Co. IL in 1828 spending the winter with cousin Judge William Wilson. These boys are related, hoping someone knows something. Janean

    2. Well, Steve, & others: I'm not at my home desk now, but... As for RISTER et al. families, all too numerous to remember... (WILSON, McDANIEL, CREEK/CREIG, NASH, PARRISH, RAMSEY, JONES, FARLEY, McCALLUM...etc..) I'm waiting on that marriage film...hopeful it will contain more than what we've already seen. Knock lots of family tree wood, as I'm not too optimistic (uncharacteristic for me). Prolly won't get to see it til week after TG. The big mystery combo I *was hoping to solve first was: Why is Jacob & entire family hiding from the 1850 enumerators? Where is Jacob's eldest daughter, Lucinda Rister WILSON (John L. b. Posey, IN) in the 1850, when her first daughter, Margaret Wilson Withrow was to be born 1849-1850 in IL? You would not believe the spelling creativity I've used to try and hunt these guys down! I did follow up looking for that George Rister as possible father to our suspected brothers. Nothing so far. Couldn't find one of similar age in the usual places or surrounds. My guess is 'that' one had died prior to that dern 1850. The usual suspects do pop up in the SC databases in Craven, Granville, Berkeley & Lexington counties. Jacob, John, Adam, Abraham, Frederick, George, Christian. Looking at those gives you a good idea of how many spellings are recorded for that surname -- many making extremely loose Soundex connections. Unfortunately no will book records which point to our guys, who like the treacherous Yankees they forbore, apparently forsook Dixie! ;-`) After the marriage film comes a search for probate (film avail.) & obit on Jacob (only available locally, if exists). Let me know if you have similar for Harmon (sorry, my notes at home would tell me where your progress stands on this, I think). I would consider Black Hawk War papers if I had recommendation from experienced researchers that these may prove fruitful. Whaddya think? Di

    3. You gave no date range <tsk, tsk>, but there were no Risters (exact spelling) in White Co. in 1860 and 1870 census indexes. You can check for 1880 ones at familysearch.org - it has Soundex, I don't, so I didn't do other spellings. Here are the RISTERs in White Co. in 1900: RISTER ABRAHAM 24 M W IL IL WHITE MILL SHOALS TWP RISTER AMARA 27 M W IL IL WHITE MILL SHOALS TWP RISTER FRANK 39 M W IL IL WHITE MILL SHOALS TWP RISTER GEORGE W 29 M W IL IL WHITE GRAY TWP RISTER JAMES 66 M W IL IL WHITE MILL SHOALS TWP RISTER JAMES 53 M W IL IL WHITE GRAY TWP RISTER MARY 62 F W IN IL WHITE MILL SHOALS TWP And here are the ones from 1910: RISTER ABRAHAM 34 M W IL IL WHITE MILL SHOALS TWP RISTER CHINECIE 30 F W IL IL WHITE MILL SHOALS TWP RISTER EDMOND J 25 M W IL IL WHITE MILL SHOALS TWP RISTER FRANK 49 M W IL IL WHITE MILL SHOALS TWP RISTER MARTHA 15 F W IL IL WHITE GRAY TWP RISTER MARY A 70 F W IN IL WHITE MILL SHOALS TWP RISTER RHODA 18 F W IL IL WHITE MILL SHOALS TWP RISTER UNIS 19 F W IL IL WHITE MILL SHOALS TWP RISTER WILLIAM C 24 M W IL IL WHITE GRAY TWP ...and 1920: RISTER ABRAHAM 42 M W IL IL WHITE MILL SHOALS RISTER EDDIE 35 M W IL IL WHITE MILL SHOALS RISTER GEORGE 27 M W IL IL WHITE MILL SHOALS RISTER JAMES A 31 M W IL IL WHITE PHILLIPS RISTER JAMES R 17 M W IL IL WHITE PHILLIPS RISTER JOSH 40 M W IL IL WHITE MILL SHOALS RISTER WILLIAM C 34 M W IL IL WHITE ENFIELD RISTER WILLIAM F 58 M W IN IL WHITE MILL SHOALS --- SSpunk@aol.com wrote: > RISTER > RIESTER > REISTER > RESTER > AND ALL OTHER VARIATIONS __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? 3. Janean, You can get the names of the cemeteries from the Illinois State Genealogy Society site, but we don't have any of the cemeteries on line. A few years ago the Historical society set out to do new readings of all the cemeteries and publish books by township. Only two twps, Gray and Phillips, are complete and published. We have typed copies of several other cemeteries, but I don't remember seeing West Union. The project is proceeding slowly. The old 1970s readings have many, many errors and omissions, and are available through interlibrary loan or at many genealogy libraries. I have updated the website a bit lately, mostly by adding old postcards. Check it out at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilwhite2/postcards.html .
