Carmi Times Mon Apr 27, 2009 Carmi, Ill. - George William "Bill" Rector Jr. 79, Carmi, passed away at 7:10 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2009 at his residence. He was born Feb. 7, 1930 in Silex, Mo., the son of George William and Mary (Beck) Rector. His father died and he was raised by his mother and stepfather, Mary and Leonard Samford. He married Winifred Ann Bolliger Aug. 29, 1953. He was a Korean War Marine veteran and co-owner and operator of Rector & Stone Drilling Co. He was a member of and ruling elder of First Presbyterian Church in Carmi. He was a member of the Carmi Country Club, Elks Lodge, American Legion Post 224 and VFW Post 3851. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Winifred A. "Winnie" Rector of Carmi; a daughter and son-in-law Georganne and Bill Clark of Jackson, Tenn.; a son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Janet Rector of Royse City, Texas; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Doris Samford of Pine, Colo., Miriam and Buck Warren of Olathe, Kan., and Barbara and Bill Wasson of Lakeland, Fla.; a brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Wilma Samford of Blue Eye, Mo.; four grandchildren, Bryan Clark and fiance' Rachel Brown of Pittsburg, Pa., Kathryn Clark of Madison, Wis., Joshua Rector and friend Michelle Smith and Jennifer Rector, all of Royse City, Texas; a great-granddaughter, Sophie Rector; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Hayden "Bob" Rector; a sister, Dorothy Samford Lappin; and a grandson, Billy Rector. Arrangements are pending at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
Carmi Times Mon Apr 27, SEABROOK, TEXAS - Kathryn Rosanne Allen Frazier, 71, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, died on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at her home in Seabrook, Texas, surrounded by family, after a courageous six-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Her wonderful, positive attitude was a real inspiration to all. Rosanne was born on May 23, 1937, near Carmi, Illinois, to Samuel James Allen and Mattie Maye Butler Allen. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, James Butler Allen and William Lee Allen. She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Bill E. Frazier; her children, Kimberly Ann Leach and husband Doug of Houston, her son Kyle Allen Frazier and wife Analisa of Houston, and her son Mark Eric Frazier and wife Brenda of San Antonio; her grandchildren, Alexa Catherine Leach and Ashley Elizabeth Leach of Houston, Austin Ryan Frazier, Andrew Allen Frazier, Taylor Reagan Frazier and Reed Blaschke Frazier of San Antonio, and Kyle Brandt Frazier and Madeleine Marie Frazier of Houston; her dear sister, Georgia Allen Friggle of Victoria, Texas; brothers-in-law, Charles Frazier and wife Lavonne, and Jerre Frazier and wife Lu; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Rosanne's greatest joys in life were her family, her friends and her love of art and genealogy. Her love and commitment to her family was at the heart of all she did. She was a devoted and loving friend to those she came to know in the many organizations in which she was active - Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo School Art Committee Judge, Clipt Wings, Bay Area Art League, Houston Symphony League, Houston Bar Auxiliary and many more. A life-long Methodist, she was an active member of Seabrook UMC. Raised on her parent's farm in White County, Illinois, she forever valued her Midwestern roots. She attended a one-room school through eighth grade, graduated from Carmi Township High School in 1954 and studied fine arts at the University of Illinois, where she was selected as an Illio Beauty. She was also selected in 1955 as Miss Illinois REA. After two years of college she moved to Washington, D.C., to become a flight attendant for Capital Airlines, where she met her husband, Bill, a lieutenant in the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Belvoir, Va. They were married on Dec. 6, 1956. After moving to Timber Cove, she obtained a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Houston. Her greatest passion, instilled in her at a young age by her mother, was art. After graduating from college, she continued to study art throughout her life, attending workshops around the country. She was privileged to study for years under world renowned portrait artist Lajos Markos. Gifted with a special talent for painting portraits, her subjects included generals, astronauts, judges, corporate executives and families. Selected as an artist for the U.S. Coast Guard Art Collection, her work is displayed throughout the country. Her work is being featured at the Bay Area Museum Guild's 25th Anniversary Silver Tea on May 3 and can be viewed at www.rosannefrazier.com Her family is especially grateful to Dr. Robert Wolff at MD Anderson for his kind, thoughtful and loving approach to her care and, most importantly, to her dear sister Georgia. Carmi Times Fri Apr 17, 2009 Norris City, Ill. - Roberta L. Campbell, 66, Norris City, died at 12:45 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 2009, at her residence. She was born Aug. 1, 1942, in Carbondale, the daughter of David Robert and Gladys Vivian (Fickert) Dixon. She married James William Campbell June 16, 1975 and he preceded her in death May 18, 1988. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Carmi and was a beautician. Among her survivors are a stepson, Keith W. Campbell of Orient, Ill., and two step-granddaughters, Kaylee Marie and Tiffany Dawn Campbell. Graveside funeral services and burial is at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2009, at Union Cemetery in Norris City with the Rev. Terra Sisco officiating. Campbell Funeral Home of Norris City is in charge of the arrangements and asks those attending to meet at the cemetery.

Carmi Times Tue Apr 21, 2009 Carmi, Ill. - Janet R. Kimbrell, 68, Carmi, died at 3:51 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2009, at her residence. She was born Aug. 7, 1940, in Crossville, the daughter of Chelsea and Jessie (Garrison) Fobar. She married James Robert Kimbrell Jr. June 4, 1960, and he survives. Janet was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Carmi. Among her other survivors are: a daughter, Lesa (Art) Gonzales of Mesa, Ariz.; a son, Brian (Melinda) Kimbrell of Camarillo, Calif.; and three grandchildren. Funeral services are set for 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2009, at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with the Rev. Carmi Times Tue Apr 21, 2009 Enfield, Ill. - Grace Ellen Peterson, 57, of Enfield and formerly of Lombard, died at 5 a.m. Sunday, March 29, 2009, at her school residence in Carbondale after a year-long battle with cancer. She was born May 13, 1951, in Chicago, the daughter of Rolland Harold and Kathleen Anne (Morphy) Peterson. Ms. Peterson retired after 25 years of service as a telecommunicator with the Illinois State Police in Elgin and at District 19 in Carmi. She was a very successful produce farmer and sold organic chicken eggs. She loved all animals and kept special care of many varieties of farm animals on her property at Enfield. She recently completed her undergraduate degree in criminal justice and was looking forward to her graduation May 10 from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Among her survivors are: a sister, Sandra Helen Anne Peterson-Fox of Charleston; two brothers, Robert William (Cindy) Peterson of San Marcos, Calif., and Alan (Delores) Peterson of Littleton, Colo.; four nieces and nephews, Eric Fox of Ottawa, Kristin (Jason) Britt of Oakland Park, Fla., Shannon Rose Peterson and Adam Peterson, both of San Marcos, Calif.; great-niece, McKena Fox of Flora; an aunt, Susan Morphy Morgan of California; and cousins, Patricia Janis, Susan Merrill, and Marjene (Gilbert) Simmons of Portland, Ore. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Harold Bruce Peterson; and her uncle, Rolla Morgan. Services honoring her life were held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2009, at Schilling Funeral Home in Mattoon. Burial was in Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon. He was born March 2, 1909, in Gossett, the son of John Mitchell and Minnie (Edwards) Douglas. Earl had worked as a station operator for Texas Eastern Pipeline in Norris City. He was a member of Mt. Oval Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Norris City and was a 77-year member of the Omaha Masonic Lodge. Among his survivors are: his wife, Freda Faye (Cox) Douglas of Norris City; two sons, Edward (Kathy) of Omaha and Melvin Douglas of Covington, La.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: a sister, Ella Sheldon; and three brothers, Herschel, William and Lawrence Douglas. Funeral services begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City with the Rev. Terra Sisco officiating. Burial to follow at Mt. Oval Cemetery in Norris City. Carmi Times Tue Apr 21, 2009 Carmi, Ill. - Mary Louise (Newman) Balance, 86, formerly of Carmi, died Sunday, April 5, 2009, at Fayette County Long Term Care in Vandalia. She was born Sept. 8, 1922, in Henderson, Ky., the daughter of John H. and Eunice Stewart. Mary Louise and her husband, Burton Newman, owned and operated "Pee Wee's" Grocery on North Fifth Street in Carmi for nearly 30 years. Burton died in 1976 and Mary Louise relocated to Tucson, Ariz., where she met and married Glen Balance and remained for the next 30 years. All who knew her will remember her as a caring, outgoing and vivacious individual who was always concerned about the welfare of others and a great lover of planning special parties for her many friends. Survivors include: a son, Richard (Pamela) Newman of Sequim, Wash., and their son, Nicholas and wife Kelly; a daughter, Teresa (Scott) Howard of Carmi, and their sons Stewart and his wife Terri and Scott Richard and two great-grandchildren, Seth and Samuel. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 24, 2009, at White County Memorial Gardens with Pastor Jon Farmer of Foothills Community Church in Tucson officiating. Carmi Times Tue Apr 21, 2009 Evansville, Ind. - Pamela Louise Rietz Agan, 60, died Sunday, April 19, 2009, at home in Evansville, Ind. She was born May 6, 1948, in Chicago to John L. and Maurene (Becker) Rietz. Her father preceded her in death while her mother survives. Pamela was educated at Eastern Illinois University and graduated from the University of Evansville where she earned bachelors and masters degrees in teaching. Her career in education included Boonville High School and middle school and high school in Fairfax County, Va. After retirement, she was an adjunct instructor at Ivy Tech Community College in Evansville. Pamela was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carmi. Among her survivors are: a son, Matthew D. Agan; cousins Dick James, Shannon James, Samantha Whitehawk, Sue Myers, Pamela Armstrong, Beth Ann Myers and Debbie Ackerman. She was preceded in death by a sister, Margot, and a brother, John. Visitation is from 4 until 8 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at Campbell Funeral Home, Carmi. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 26, at First Presbyterian Church in Carmi with burial to follow at Big Prairie Cemetery. He was born July 24, 1940, in Hamilton County, the son of Joseph Raymond and Mary Alice (Tate) Campbell. He married Carolyn Sue Kinney Sept. 20, 1963, and she survives. Bob was a foreman and fabricator for Bucyrus American Inc., in Norris City. Surviving along with his wife of 45 years are: a son, David Bryan Campbell of Mt. Vernon, Ind.; a brother, Jack Campbell of Norris City; a grandson, Devin Michael Campbell; and two sisters-in-law, Anna Campbell of Norris City and Carolyn Campbell of Carmi. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jim, John and Leroy Campbell, and a sister-in-law, Roberta Campbell. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City, with the Rev. William Jackson and Mike Fields officiating. Burial to follow in the I.O.O.F. Carmi Times Mon Apr 20, 2009 Carmi, Ill. - Jerry French, 61, Carmi, died Saturday, April 18, 2009, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Ind. He was born Dec. 11, 1947, in Carmi, the son of Giltner and Tilda (Combs) French. He married Paula A. Hosman in Mt. Vernon, Ill., on Feb. 15, 1968, and she survives. Jerry was a Vietnam veteran and was awarded the purple heart and soldier's medal. He retired from Illinois Department of Natural Resources as an oil well inspector and had also worked on the railroad. He had been a Mason for many years, was a past commander and a lifetime member of Carmi VFW Post 3851 and was a member of Carmi American Legion Post 224. He attended the Maunie Methodist Church. Among his survivors are: a son, Michael W. (Kathleen) French of Carmi; two brothers, Marion (Betty) French of Carmi and Allen French of Baton Rouge, La.; four sisters, Margaret Proctor of Fairview, Okla., Marie York of Carmi, Leona (Carl) Julian of Carmi, and Jenny (Bob) Dedoming of Mt Vernon, Ind.; a granddaughter, Sidney French of Carmi; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by: his parents; a daughter, Shelley French; three brothers, Arnold, Clarence, and John French; two sisters, Kathryn Sandidge and Judy Duvall. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at Stendeback Family Funeral Home/Kittinger-Fair in Carmi. Visitation is from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at the funeral home chapel. Interment to follow the services at Kuykendall Cemetery in Carmi with military burial rites by the Carmi VFW and American Legion posts. Fern had been a member of the First United Methodist Church in Norris City since 1959 and was a beautician. She had also worked at Ainsbrook Sewing Factory and the Egyptian Health Department. Among her survivors are: two daughters, Judy (Terry) Daubs and Tracy Russell, all of Norris City; a brother, Robert D. (Diane) Russell of Murray, Ky.; a sister, Nellie Wichael of Iowa; four grandchildren, Craig Russell of Boston, Mass.; Mitchell Russell of Murray, Ky., Shelly Emrick of Marshall, Texas, and Jason Daubs of Eagle, Colo.; and five great-grandchildren.
