Debbie, I have never found any HAZEL connection in this King family, this has been a very difficult line to research due to the names being used over and over...most common names are James, Henry, William, Joseph, George, Thomas, John and now since dna matches have revealed related King lines, we also have Horace and Jesse as additional names. There is a possibility that the Joshua King line of White Co. could be connected to this line, as they were noted in some online resources as being from Surry Co., Virginia. Surry Co., Virginia is just across the James River from Jamestown via a ferry ride. It is known that the first Jamestown ship that landed in 1607 first tied off at Claremont in what was to become Surry Co., but then moved back down to the opposite side of the river, to establish the colonial settlement of Jamestown. Surry is alive with names of these early families who eventually migrated into Kentucky and Illinois. My dna markers revealed a close dna relative whose family has lived in the Surry area constantly for at least 7 generations. Another is a family descended from the slave Diana, who was owned by Jesse King. Her descendants are wonderful, successful and embrace their heritage without any anger at the circumstances of the birth of their lineage. We have become very close. Good luck with your HAZEL line.. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim & Debbie McArdle" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, June 15, 2009 7:18 PM Subject: [ILWHITE] KING of White Co. & HAZEL of Pope Co., IL > Whenever I see the name KING in Pope County, IL, I wonder about King HAZEL > and wonder if the KING in King HAZEL was given because it was an earlier > surname in the family. Hey Mike, I am just not getting around to writing the last chapter of the Fifth's history, which deals with postwar adaptation and readjustment. I would very much like to use Ward's last sentence of the letter attached below about how he gave three years not for party but for the cause--what a great quote! In order to accurately quote this, though, I need a copy of the original. Would it be too much trouble to either scan the letter into the computer and send it to me as an email attachment, or make a photocopy and send it through snail mail? Let me know if there are any charges. Thanks again for sharing. Hello, White County researchers: The family story is that my great-great grandparents William Little (abt 1810- Mar 1865) and his second wife whose maiden name was Martha Vaughan (b. abt 1832, d. abt 1864) were buried in White County, possibly near "Blue Mound" Church. My great-grandmother Tabetha Ann (called Annie, and who married U. Travis Walden) was a toddler when they died, and she was raised by Judge Orlando Burrell. I'd like to know where William and Martha are buried and to hear from other descendants of this pair or of William and his first wife Rutha (1809-1863). Thanks! Joan Gipson-Fredin Vista, Californai
