Your SGT Bidwell married a Rachel Drake but she is not from my Drake family. However, there was a Cornelius Drake family in Nelson county KY prior to 1790. Cornelius was born abt 1740 and was descended from the so-called "Dutch Drakes" of NY. Thereis evidence he was born in Fishkill, NY and had contact with CT families---his wife was Sarah Worthington from CT. I suggest you look into this Drake line for the SGT's wife. Carmi Times Wed Mar 10, 2010 Norris City - Edward Griffith, 86, passed away at 2:40 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at his residence in Norris City. He was born March 28, 1923 in Norris City, the son of James David and Annie (Acord) Griffith. He married Ella Mae Friend on Sept. 1, 1945. Edward was a graduate of Norris City High School and served in the United States Army during World War II. He retired after 30 years as custodian at Norris City-Omaha-Enfield High School. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Ella Mae Griffith of Norris City; two daughters and a son-in-law, Anna Mae Henson of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Susie and John Hawkins of Harrisburg; a sister, Mary Griffith of Norris City; seven grandchildren and spouses, Sarah and Barry Evans, and Amy Henson, all of Broken Arrow, Okla., Maria and Daniel Pilkington of Eldorado, Dana and Kenny Tanner, Angie and Keith Williams, Phil and Bekah Hawkins and Bryan Edward Hawkins, all of Harrisburg; and ten great-grandchildren, Brayden and Simon Evans, Nicholas, Katie and Jonathan Pilkington, Kailu, Brandon and Jamie Tanner, and Emma and Sophie Williams. Carmi Times Tue Mar 09, 2010 Norris City - Harold A. "Has" Sutton, 63, Norris City, passed away at 8:24 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado. He was born Dec. 14, 1946 in Saline County, the son of John Sutton Jr. and Mabel (McGhee) Sutton-Shay. He married Alice Ann Morris March 18, 1975. Mr. Sutton was a farmer and supervisor of Gallatin-White Water District. Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Alice Sutton of Norris City; three daughters and sons-in-law, Amanda Ann and Jason Cannon of Norris City, Allison Fran and Andrew Grabert of Mt. Vernon, Ind., and Victoria Lacy and Justin Woodrow of McLeansboro; three brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Peggy Sutton of Norris City, Harry and Danna Sutton of Fairfield, and Mike and Georgianna Sutton of Paragould, Ark.; and six grandchildren, Morgan Nickelle Barton, Seth Alan Cannon, Asa John Cannon, Lane David Branson, Hallie Ann-Marie Woodrow and Sawyer Don Woodrow. Mabel P. McLaughlin, 87, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois passed away at 9:30 P.M. on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at Nature Trail Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. She was born on October 24, 1922 in Carmi, Illinois the daughter of the late Rufus Blagg and Lena Easton. She married Harold E. McLaughlin on October 16, 1948 in Hederson, Kentucky and he preceded her in death on February 6, 1989. Surviving family members include her Daughter: Carolyn K. Clark and husband Kenneth of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; Son: Harry E. McLaughlin and wife Kathy of Dyersburg, Tennessee; 5 Grandchildren: Matthew Degenhart and fiancee Whitney, Brian McLaughlin, Kristy McLaughlin, Phillip Clark and Dana Clark; Brother: Charles Blagg and wife Betty of Louisville, Georgia; Sister: Lucille Blagg of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; 2 Sisters-in-law: Delores Blagg of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and Betty Ann Heath of Phoenix, Arizona; Several Nieces and Nephews also survive. He was born Oct. 6, 1937 in Emma, the son of Frank B. and Ruth (Walker) Chapman. He married Virginia Lee Brooks, and she survives. Noble Dean was a truck driver and had served in the Marine Reserves for nine years. Surviving are his wife, Virginia of Carmi; a son, Kerry Chapman of Evansville, Ind.; a daughter, Deana Chapman, and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Rebecca and Darrell Hampton of Phoenix, Ariz., and Camilla Blackford of Evansville, Ind. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 6, at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, the Rev. Lowes Browning officiating. Burial will be in Powell Cemetery near Norris City. She was born March 8, 1913 at Burnt Prairie, the daughter of Arthur and Louella Finch King, and was married Nov. 14, 1931 in White County to Harry Stewart, who died Dec. 8, 1973. Mrs. Stewart was a homemaker and attended Mt. Pleasant Primitive Baptist church as a child. Surviving are two daughters-in-law, Marquetta Stewart of Mt. Vernon, Ill. and Pat Vaughan of Fairfield; a sister, Doris Sanders of Texas; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, four sisters, five brothers and one great-great-granddaughter. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 6 at Maple Hill Cemetery in Fairfield, Brother Art Christmas officiating. She was born July 9, 1914, in White County, the daughter of Rolla and Eva (Gillespie) Campbell. She was married to Marion A. Young on April 8, 1932, and they celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary before he preceded her in death on Aug. 16, 1993. She was a former member of First Baptist Church in Mt. Carmel and later became a member of First Christian Church in Grayville. She was a past Matron of Eastern Star and a member of the White Shrine of Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Survivors include two daughters, Winnifred Kuykendall of Grayville, and Norma Walter and her husband Richard of Green Valley, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Donna Mills and her husband John of Philpot, Ky., Mary Lingafelter and her husband Steve of Grayville, Mark Walter and his wife Thanea of Naperville, and David Walter and his wife Sharon of Cary; nine great-grandchildren, Jayla Dilbeck and her husband Shawn of Harrodsburg, Ky., Lissa Mills of Dallas, Texas, Jason Mills of Lexington, Ky., Logan Mills of Chesterfield, Mo., Ashley Roosevelt and her husband Kyle of Grayville, Katrina Walter and Alexander Walter of Naperville, and Ashley Anne Walter and Dylan Walter of Cary; and three great-great grandchildren, Tucker, Taylor and Tessa Dilbeck of Danville. He was born Aug. 31, 1936 in Broughton, the son of Andrew Walters "A.W." and Grace Maude (Shaw) Martin. He married Barbara J. Hucker on Feb. 8, 1964, and she survives. Earl worked as a truck driver. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during peace time, and was a 1952 graduate of Norris City High School. Earl is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara Martin of Carmi; a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Garon Baker of Flora; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffery and Deb Martin of Ames, Iowa; a brother, Wayne Martin of Tullahoma, Tenn.; and three grandsons, Justin Earl and Benjamin Austin Martin and Evan Rix. She was born Oct. 12, 1915, in Oklahoma, daughter of the late Ed and Alice Timmons. She was the beloved wife of Odis Hurt, who preceded her in death, and beloved mother of her only son, Don Odis Hurt and daughter-in-law, June Hurt. Celestia was a member of the Church of Christ in Vero Beach, Fla. Survivors include her son, Don Odis Hurt and his wife June of Buckhannon, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Brad Hurt of Crossville, Shannon Hurt Beafore of Fairmont, W.Va. and Odie Hurt of Virginia Beach, Va.; four great-grandchildren, Chandler Petitto and Alexander Beafore of Fairmont, W.Va., and Quinton Hurt and Miranda Hurt of Chesterfield, Va. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a sister, Faye Timmons Richards, and brother, Ed Timmons. She was born Sept. 2, 1912, in Edwards County, the daughter of Samuel J. and Ida (Frankland) Kershaw. She married Harlan C. Shoup Nov. 14, 1945, and he preceded her in death on March 30, 2002. Velma was a very active member of Crossville United Methodist Church until her health failed her. She taught school for over 44 years, beginning in Edwards County and later teaching in White County until her retirement in 1974. Survivors include nephews, John Endicott of Carmi, Thomas Endicott of Chandler, Ariz., and Samuel L. Kershaw of Decatur; nieces, Marjorie Baker of Shawneetown and Virginia Singleton of Evansville, Ind.; a brother-in-law, Richard Endicott of Carmi; and several great, great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Ida Kershaw; stepmother, Jennie Kershaw; husband, Harlan Shoup; two brothers, William R. Kershaw and Meredith R. Kershaw; a sister, Ruth Endicott; and nieces, Jean Wall and Anita Harris. Visitation and funeral service will be Tuesday, March 9, at Crossville United Methodist Church. Carmi Times Wed Mar 03, 2010 Carmi, Ill. - Mildred (Martin) Nally, 94, of 203 N. Jackson Ave., Fowler, Ind., died Monday, March 1, 2010. Mildred was born in the rural community of Herald near Carmi, where she graduated from high school. Studying for a teaching career, she graduated from Bethel Woman's College of Kentucky and also Illinois College of Jacksonville. Her teaching career began at Meredosia, Ill., but she later moved north to Iroquois County, where she taught in Stockland and Milford High School for several years. She married Bernard Nally of Milford June 17, 1942. They moved to Fowler, Ind. for business purposes in 1946. After several years of homemaking, Mrs. Nally resumed her teaching career at Sheldon and later at Milford, where she retired in May 1981. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Illinois Retired Teachers' Association. Surviving are a son, John (Linda, wife) of Fowler; a daughter, Janet (Stephen, husband) of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; five grandchildren, Patrick Nally (Heather, wife) and Aaron Nally of Fowler; David Brock of Lafayette; Adam Brock (Debbie, wife) of Jupiter, Fla.; and Emily Brock of Sarasota, Fla.: and two great-grandchildren, McKenna and Everett Nally of Fowler. He was born Jan. 20, 1974 in Rockford, the son of Michael Knight and Jackie (Dauenbaugh) Lander. He was employed by Willwood Burial Park in the cemetery maintenance department. Cris was the drummer in the band Coda:Arms and was a great bass player. He was a talented artist and shared his passion for music with his family. He is survived by his wife, Lisa Knight; sons, Jack, Mark and Michael Knight; mom and stepfather, Jackie and Ray Lander; sisters, Paula Knight and Gina (Richard) Lehman; grandparents, Ruby and George Knight of Carmi; nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles; special friends, Vinny, Lance, Steve, Joe, Wendall, Mike, John and Phil. Cris was a wonderful husband, an amazing father, a great friend and he will be deeply missed. He is predeceased by his father, Michael Knight; maternal grandparents, Laray and Paul Dauenbaugh; and his beloved dog, Damien.
