    3. Hi - I copied off a page from the May 05, 1904, edition of the Wayne County Press (on microfilm)that contained some genealogical information that I wanted. Elsewhere on that page I realized there information about other people that some of you might want. This page contained County Correspondence columns from various towns. WAYNE CITY (This was on the far left of the page which contained a large black line down through the column so I couldn't read all the words) May 3. A very quiet wedding took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ayers last Sunday evening at ? o'clock. Their daughter, Mis Ora Ayers, and Mr. Milburn Ellis were joined in the holy bonds of matrimony. Their many friends wish them a happy life. Mrs. Jennie Dalton and Miss Ella Dalton came over from Belleville last Saturday and spent Sunday with ?ome folks. Mrs. Letha Dalton will leave Wednesday for Belleville where she will visit a few days with her sons, ??. M. and Elmer Dalton, who are ??ocated at Belleville. ?? Wm. Dewitt spent Monday at Mt. Vernon. Supt J. W. Templeman called on Wayne City friends Monday. He was on his way to visit his father ?outh of this place. J. B. Scott visited his home near ?arlow a few days last week. George Irvin left last week for Illopolis, Ill., where he expects to work this summer. Rev. and Mrs. Wm. Ellewood returned last Saturday from a two weeks visit with Mrs. Ellewood's parents at Carlyle. H. D. Thing, E. B. Staton and F. P. ?taton, went to St. Louis Saturday to attend the opening of the fair. Dr. B. E. Garrison and family visited the Dr.'s father in Hickory Hill MOnday and Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Milt Anderson made ? trip to Fairfield, Tuesday. __________________________________________________ ROCK BRANCH May 2. Sunday visitors were: Mr. ULys ?atson and family with Mr. and Mrs. ?in Johnson; Mr. and Mrs. Ira ?atchett with Walter Leather and family; H. G. Watson and wife with ?. Z. Holmes and family. The pie supper at Watson last Friday night was well attended and with ?lendid order, the proceeds amounting to $5.00. Miss Mamie Porter re-??ved the cake. They expect to get??library by adding more to the proceeds. Miss Della States and best fellow attended S. S. at Rock Branch, Sunday evening. Marion Pennington has a new organ. (bottom of page is cut off) ________________________________________________ NORTHERN WAYNE Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Babcock visited Henry Madden and family Sunday. Mrs. Jennie Dreppard, of Clay County, spent part of last week at the bedside of her sick mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Black. Mrs. Edna Dermody, of Flora, is visiting her mother, Mrs. Sarah Clay. Mrs. Lou Perry has been on the sick list the past week. Mis Myrtle Richison, of Jefferson County, has been visiting relatives and friends in this vicinity the past two weeks. Charles Baker and daughter, Mrs. Effie Cooper, took dinner with Sam Slade and family Sunday. Miss Mabel Reid took Sunday dinner with Misses Sarah and Rosa Atterberry. Clayton Cooper was a business visitor at Fairfield, Saturday. Albert Robertson and wife, of Summer, were called here the first of last week on account of the illness of their mother, Mrs. S. Robertson. Mrs. Robertson is slowly improving. Richard McClure died at his home in this vicinity Saturday at 4 o'clock p.m., after a long illness. He was born in Pennsylvania seventy-two years ago and came to Southern Ill., in his early manhood. Deceased leaves eight children, all living in the vicinity, excepting a daughter in Missouri, and a daughter in Nevada. Funeral services were preached at Pleasant Hill church by Eld. Logan, of Jeffersonville, after which the remains were interred in the Boone Cemetery there to await the resurrection. The family have the sympathy of all in their sad bereavement. _______________________________________________________________________ Garden Hill G. A. Colclasure and family spent Sunday with C. R. Book and wife. W. T. Farmer and E. M. Turner attended the telephone meeting at Zenia on Saturday last, but no important business was transacted. S. A. Vansickle and son, Artie, with their families, spent Sunday with Mrs. Julia King. Jesse Snelling is working for H. O. Turner again this week. Mrs. Julia King now drives a new buggy. (I am assuming the below is part of Garden Hill. The previous column which had Garden Hill beginning toward the bottom was cut off at the bottom.) Mr. and Mrs. Middleton, of Iuka, visited relatives and friends in our vicinity Saturday and Sunday last. W. F. Farmer filled his appointment at New Zion Saturday and Sunday last. Miss Bertha Cook, of near Johnsonville, visited friends in our vicinity Sunday last. Eld. Jesse Turner and son, Harry, with their families took dinner at E. F. Bosley's Sunday. There was no school at Tennessee Friday last on account of the funeral of a relative of Mrs. Slover, the Teacher. E. E. Holloway will teach at Tennessee the coming winter at $45 per month. Miss Maggie Tadlock and Mrs. W. R. Barth visited Mrs. G. A. Colclasun one day last week. _______________________________________________________ Golden Gate A small child of John Hodges, who lives west of Golden Gate two miles, fell in a tub of water and was almost drowned last Wednesday evening. A certain man has had taken out of his corn cribs two hundred and fifty bushels of corn. Some people evidently think it pays to "take well" when you are out. Dr. Walters and Rev. Taylor, secretary and president of the Prohibiiton convention heled at Fairfield, were here on official business, that of notifying Hon. Geo. R. Leach of his nomination as state representative on the Prohibition ticket. The Edwards Co. Telephone Co. has recently put a throughline to Fairfield; also one to Liberty, and another to the patrons north and west of here. James Dunn has recently moved to this place from his farm west of town. Geo. Walters moved to Fairfield on last Tuesday from here. John Bruce, a wealthy northern ILlinois farmer, has purchased a 160 acre farm, west and south of G. R. Leach's, and is rapidly tiling and clearing it, preparatory to cultivation. Hester Powless left Wednesday for Mt. Vernon, where she will stay with her sister, Martha Smith. The friends of Miss Besie Hocking surprised her by giving her a party at R. B. Hocking's on Friday evening, April 29th, at 8 o'clock, it being Miss Bessie's eighteenth birthday anniversary. Lewis W. Elliot, a resident of Flora, who has been working for the B. & O. Ry. Co. for ten years, and brakeman for the Southern for the past two weeks, met with a most serious accident while switching at Golden Gate last Friday afternoon, about 3:30.
